Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes has signed a new five-year contract, effectively ending fears that he could leave the club this summer.
The 24-year-old Brazil international has committed his future to Wolves until 2030, with his new deal including an option for a further year.
The contract does not contain a release clause, meaning Gomes is all but certain to stay at Molineux this summer.

He becomes the second Brazil international in recent months to agree a few five-year deal with Wolves but striker Matheus Cunha’s contract, signed in January, featured a release clause that means a summer departure remains a strong possibility.
Gomes, however, is set to stay for the foreseeable future. He has made 80 appearances since joining from his boyhood club Flamengo in January 2023.
Head coach Vitor Pereira said: “I’m very happy because Joao is a team player. He gives every time 100 per cent, in training, in the games, and he has the quality to help this team and this club to make the next step.
“At the end of the game he’s given everything for the team, defending, attacking, supporting the teammates, and this is what we need in our team, this is the spirit we need at this club. We must come to Wolverhampton with this hunger, this spirit to help the team, help the club to grow up.
“He’s very important because he’s a midfielder with physicality and the power to run for 90 minutes, and he’s young. He has big potential and can be a top player.”
After signing for Wolves under Julen Lopetegui, Gomes became a regular starter last season under Gary O’Neil and, since the arrival of Pereira in December, has formed a hugely effective midfield partnership with fellow Brazil international Andre.
He has registered seven goals and three assists for Wolves in all competitions and made his full debut for Brazil since moving to England. He has gone on to win 10 caps.
Gomes joins Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera in signing a five-year deal with the club this week.
‘A major step forward’
Ahead of another crucial summer for Wolves, tying Gomes down to a long-term deal is a major step forward.
His partnership with Andre, which has involved the pair dovetailing superbly with Gomes as the energetic presser and his Brazil team-mate as the deeper-lying reader and passer, has been one of the huge successes of Vitor Pereira’s three-and-a-half-month reign.

With Andre contracted to 2029 and Gomes now committed until the following summer, it seems highly likely that the pair will reprise their successful pairing at the start of next season.
With Matheus Cunha’s departure still entirely possible, Nelson Semedo and Pablo Sarabia out of contract and likely to depart and Rayan Ait-Nouri also expected to attract summer interest, Wolves can at least know they have a starting midfield duo already in place.
