Odvolací soud v pátek zrušil verdikt kvůli nedostatečným důkazům. V odůvodnění uvedl, že loňský rozsudek se vyznačoval „řadou nedostatků, nepřesností, nesrovnalostí a rozporů“ a neposkytoval „dostatečné důkazy“ pro to, aby byla vyloučena Alvesova presumpce neviny.
Soudci také napsali, že svědectví žalující ženy se výrazně liší od důkazů pocházejících z videozáznamů pořízených předtím, než společně s Alvesem vešla do koupelny, kde ji fotbalista podle jejího tvrzení donutil k sexu.
Slavný hráč byl loni v březnu na kauci milion eur (zhruba 25 milionů korun) propuštěn a na výsledek odvolání čekal na svobodě. Ve vězení byl od ledna 2023.
Během bohaté a dlouhé kariéry Alves získal 42 trofejí. S Barcelonou vybojoval šest ligových titulů a třikrát vyhrál Ligu mistrů. Za brazilskou reprezentaci odehrál 126 utkání.
