La trayectoria de Carlo Ancelotti en los banquillos es notable. Los números hablan por sí solos. Él mismo ha tenido que recordar en alguna ocasión los partidos que lleva a sus espaldas como entrenador para sugerir que no necesita demasiados consejos para hacer una alineación o escoger el mejor momento para tomar una decisión antes, durante o después de un partido.
La experiencia es un grado, y en su caso, como técnico del Real Madrid, y partido a partido, está adquiriendo mucha en un apartado muy concreto: las prórrogas.
La del partido de semifinales de Copa ante la Real Sociedad fue la ocasión número 13 que el Real Madrid de Carlo Ancelotti ha necesitado de una prórroga para que se decida el pase a la siguiente fase. Este año, por ejemplo, la que afrontó contra los donostiarras, fue la tercera vez que ha vivido. Antes fue en octavos de Copa ante el Celta y la de octavos de Champions ante el Atleti.

En sus dos etapas como preparador blanco, sólo en la campaña 14/15, la última de su primer ciclo en el Bernabéu, ha vivido al menos una eliminatoria en la que el enfrentamiento no hubiera que ir al tiempo añadido.
‘Cotidianidad’
Y la cuestión es que en casi todas ellas han coincidido dos denominadores comunes. El primero es que el Madrid ha salido victorioso en todas ellas salvo en una ocasión, circunstancia que ubica al protagonista del segundo rasgo habitual cuando se habla de prórrogas y el equipo blanco: el Atlético de Madrid.
En las dos etapas de Carlo Ancelotti como técnico del Real Madrid, se ha medido al club rojiblanco en cuatro de las cinco temporadas en las que ha llegado a una prórroga de una eliminatoria, ya fuera en Copa del Rey, Supercopa de España o Champions League.

La primera, ante el Atleti
La primera vez que Carlo Ancelotti vivió una prórroga como entrenador del Real Madrid fue en su primera temporada (2013/2014) en una ocasión más que histórica para los blancos, además de trágica para el Atlético de Madrid: la final de Champions de Lisboa.
Sergio Ramos empató en el minuto 93 el gol de Godín y, una vez comenzada la prórroga, los blancos supieron aprovechar la estupefacción rojiblanca para conquistar la Décima Orejona. El resultado definitivo fue de 4-1.
Desde 2021, siempre
La campaña 2021/2022 fue la del regreso de Carletto, también histórica para el Real Madrid. Las dos remontadas con prórroga añadida ante el Chelsea y Manchester City en cuartos de final y semifinales de Champions alimentaron de forma definitiva la tradicional épica blanca en las noches europeas.
Las mejores jugadas y todos los goles.
De todas las ocasiones en las que ha llegado a un prórroga, en tres ha tenido que afrontar una tanda de penaltis. La última, la discutida del doble toque de Julián Álvarez en los octavos de Champions.
En todas esas ocasiones, siempre se han impuesto los de Ancelotti. Ante el Valencia, en la Supercopa de España (22/23), ante el City, en la Champions (23/24) y este mismo año contra el Atlético de Madrid.
Lo que queda
Las opciones de continuar su racha en las prórrogas pasan por la final de Copa y, de momento, en la fase de cuartos de final de la presente edición de la Champions, en la que los de Ancelotti se miden a Mikel Arteta y sus gunners del Arsenal.
En tres ocasiones se han medido los blancos ante los londinenses; además de aquella eliminatoria en la que el Arsenal se impuso en los octavos de la Champions de 2006, sólo aparece un amistoso en el histórico de enfrentamientos entre ambos equipos. No estaba Ancelotti todavía en el banquillo, pero lo ocupaba uno de sus pupilos al frente del Real Madrid: Zinedine Zidane.
