A vitória do Vasco por 2 a 1 sobre o Santos, pela estreia no Campeonato Brasileiro, teve “selo internacional”. Com ambos os gols criados e marcados por jogadores estrangeiros — Vegetti para Nuno Moreira e de Payet para Vegetti —, a expectativa é de novo bom desempenho do “núcleo gringo” do time de Fábio Carille contra o Melgar, hoje, pela estreia na Copa Sul-Americana. A partida será disputada no Universidad Nacional de San Agustín, às 19h, em Arequipa, no Peru.
Será uma mistura de estreias com primeiras experiências em competições de nível continental desses atletas. Entre os sul-americanos titulares, o zagueiro Mauricio Lemos é quem tem mais rodagem em competições da América do Sul. O uruguaio de 29 anos tem nove jogos de Libertadores no currículo. Todos pelo Atlético-MG, entre 2023 e 2024.
Quem também tem certa rodagem no cenário continental é o recém-chegado Benjamín Garré. O atacante, que fez bom jogo ao iniciar como titular contra o Santos, disputou seis jogos na fase de grupos de 2020, pelo Racing.
Para o artilheiro Vegetti, será a primeira participação de prazo mais longo nas Américas. O atacante de 36 anos tem como única experiência continental a disputa da segunda fase da Sul-Americana de 2014, pelo Gimnasia-ARG. Na época, a competição tinha um formato mata-mata, e a equipe do Pirata acabou eliminada pelo Estudiantes-ARG.
Desde que chegou ao Vasco, em 2023, o centroavante tem reforçado a importância do cruz-maltino disputar uma competição internacional. A última vez foi em 2020, quando caiu nas oitavas de final da Sul-Americana, para o Defensa y Justicia-ARG.
— É muito importante para nós jogar um torneio internacional. Tem que virar costume o Vasco em torneio internacional. Quando cheguei, era a primeira meta. Sabia que fazia um tempo que o Vasco não jogava e que o clube tem história em torneio internacionais. É um objetivo principal que a gente tem — disse ele em entrevista coletiva no último dia 18.
A experiência mais inusitada será a do português Nuno Moreira. Em alta com a torcida, o atacante português nunca chegou a disputar torneios internacionais na Europa. Por outro lado, a América do Sul tem sido um cenário fértil para seus compatriotas. Dos últimos cinco campeões da Libertadores, três foram comandados por portugueses: Abel Ferreira em dois títulos do Palmeiras e Artur Jorge, pelo atual campeão Botafogo.
Em Arequipa desde segunda-feira, a equipe do Vasco começou a se adaptar à altitude de 2.300 metros da cidade peruana.
— No treino, conseguimos sentir um pouco essa diferença. Foi importante conseguir fazer um treino aqui para tentar se adaptar um pouco a isso. A gente sente bastante diferença na respiração. Temos dificuldade para puxar o oxigênio. Tecnicamente, a bola acaba ficando mais rápida, pelo ar ser mais rarefeito. Principalmente nós goleiros temos que estar bem atentos e concentrados. Qualquer chute acaba sendo mais perigoso — explicou Léo Jardim à VascoTV.
