La pista maldita para Ferrari: “Debes ir al límite, y a veces…”

No ondeaba frente a las puertas del edificio de ‘Gestione Sportiva’ de Ferrari, en el corazón de Maranello, ninguna conmemoración en honor de su primer y único éxito del 2024, la victoria de Lewis Hamilton en el sprint del Gran Premio de China. Era normal, no es una ‘victoria al uso’ -pese a la exhibición del heptacampeón- y el fin de semana acabó con bochorno. Los dos SF-25 terminaron descalificados por diferentes motivos (peso y desgaste de las planchas), deparando un hecho histórico para los italianos… en lo negativo. La reacción es obligatoria.

Tras las ‘jornadas de reflexión’ posteriores al fracaso, Ferrari debe volver a empezar. Sus pilotos no tardaron en regresar al norte de Módena, tomaron el simulador y aterrizan en un Gran Premio de Japón clave. Para levantarse en la clasificación, tratar de sumar puntos y, de paso, demostrar que son contendientes con los McLaren de Norris y Piastri. Aunque la tarea, eso sí, pinta durísima.

Porque Suzuka no es una ‘pista Ferrari’. Más bien, todo lo contrario. Bajo la reglamentación actual solo suman dos terceros puestos, de Carlos Sainz en 2024 -un carrerón- y de Charles Leclerc en 2022. Y el vacío en lo más alto del podio, pues para encontrar su última victoria hay que retroceder al último vestigio del mayor dominio de la ‘Scuderia’. Han pasado más de 20 años.

Es el dominio de Michael Schumacher, claro. El ‘Káiser’ venció en Suzuka 2004 siendo ya campeón por séptima vez -lo fue unas carreras antes- y abrió una etapa de 20 años sin vencer en la legendaria pista japonesa. La cosa ha cambiado mucho, obviamente. En aquel Gran Premio, el alemán fue un tirano. Firmó una pole aplazada al domingo por el tifón Ma-On e imprimió ritmo desde la salida. 2º y su único rival en aquella cita fue su hermano Ralf Schumacher con el Williams. En aquella ocasión firmaron su 15º podio juntos de los 16 totales –Hungría 2005 fue el último- de la mejor dupla de hermanos de la historia de la Fórmula 1.

Ferrari puede seguir ese pasado glorioso, aunque debe reaccionar. Primero, con autocrítica tras lo sucedido en China. Y la hay. “Debes ir al límite, y a veces pasan esas cosas”, confesó Fred Vasseur a L’Equipe sobre las descalificaciones. El equipo italiano intentó limar al máximo. Les salió fatal. “Fuimos demasiado agresivos. Debes ir hasta el último gramo de peso y hasta el último milímetro de desgaste, pero puede ocurrir”, apuntó.

La reacción no es opcional si quieren ser candidatos. “El SF-25 es un coche con potencial”, cerró Vasseur, que no quiere oír hablar de mal inicio y pide reacción. Pasará por las manos de Charles Leclerc y Lewis Hamilton. O la pista maldita de Suzuka seguirá por más de dos décadas sin ver al fabricante italiano en lo más alto del podio.
