Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner has signed a new two-year contract at the club with the option of a further 12 months.
Skinner’s previous deal had been due to expire in the end of the season, and The Athletic reported United had until the end of March to activate the option to extend this by a further year.

A club spokesperson told The Athletic last month positive discussions were ongoing, and the 42-year-old has now signed a new deal through to 2027.
“We are building a young, hungry team with the aim of challenging consistently for further trophies,” Skinner said. “There is still more hard work ahead, including this season, but the players and staff have already shown their determination to succeed, and I am looking forward to us taking the next steps in our journey together.“
Skinner was appointed Casey Stoney’s successor in 2021 and he has guided United to third in the Women’s Super League this season, level on points with second-place Arsenal, having lost just twice across 18 league games.
United have already surpassed their total points tally from last season when they finished a disappointing fifth — their lowest top-flight finish — 20 points off winners Chelsea and 15 points adrift of Champions League qualification. Skinner did guide his team to a second consecutive FA Cup final and won the women’s team’s first major trophy.
Manchester United technical director Jason Wilcox added: “After a major overhaul last summer, we have an exciting, developing squad ready to compete for further success, and we are convinced that Marc is the right coach to lead that process.”
Skinner led United to fourth in the WSL during his first season in charge, followed by an impressive second-place finish in 2022-23 as the club qualified for the Women’s Champions League for the first time. However, key players Alessia Russo, Mary Earps and Ona Batlle departed following the conclusion of their contracts in the summer of 2022, and United failed to reach the Champions League group stages.
Skinner has been the target of criticism from sections of the United fanbase during his tenure with The Athletic reporting in January last year that a small group of supporters were warned about singing ‘we want Skinner out’ after players and staff were said to have become uncomfortable with the chanting.
He last signed fresh terms in May, agreeing a one-year deal with the option of a further 12 months.
