Uno de los grandes miedos que tiene un peleador cuando sube al octágono es ser noqueado. Cuando en frente está Josh Emmett (19-4), ese miedo se multiplica por diez. El americano se ha convertido en uno de los noqueadores más temidos de la división de peso pluma, y este sábado se enfrentará ante Lerone Murphy (15-0-1) en el evento estelar del UFC Fight Night 256 en el APEX de Las Vegas. El número ocho se enfrenta al número diez de la categoría en un choque de estilos que puede derivar en uno de los grandes combates de la primera mitad de 2025.
Por un lado está Murphy, un prospecto invicto con un striking muy estilístico con el que va punteando hasta hacerse con la victoria. Aunque no suele verse en apuros durante sus combates por su dominio de la distancia, Lerone también demostró tener corazón ante Dan Ige, que le conectó una derecha de KO pero vio como el peleador de Manchester se repuso contra todo pronóstico. Una buena mandíbula es lo que le hará falta contra Emmett, que ante Bryce Mitchell o Ricardo Lamas ya ha demostrado que le hace falta un solo golpe para acabar la pelea.

A pesar de llevar año y medio sin competir, Emmett está dispuesto a dar la sorpresa ante un tipo que tiene el cinturón de las 145 libras entre ceja y ceja. “Verán algo especial el sábado por la noche. En sus últimas peleas, Lerone dijo que todavía está aprendiendo en el trabajo. No hay aprendizaje en el trabajo cuando estás ahí conmigo. Soy mucho más poderoso que antes, espera a que esa mano derecha conecte”, reconoció en la rueda de prensa previa a la pelea.

En el combate previo al de Topuria, Emmett también tuvo su primera y única pelea hasta la fecha por el cinturón -interino- de peso pluma ante Yair Rodríguez. Aunque en varios momentos del combate dañó al mexicano con su fuerte golpeo, finalmente sucumbió por decisión y perdió la oportunidad de su vida. “Siento que me lo debo a mí mismo, a mis entrenadores, a mi esposa, a mi familia, a los fans, a la UFC; en los últimos años no he estado peleando a mi mejor nivel.
