O Fluminense anunciou, nesta quinta-feira, a contratação de Renato Gaúcho como novo técnico para substituir Mano Menezes, demitido após a derrota para o Fortaleza, na primeira rodada do Brasileirão. O treinador de 62 anos estava sem clube depois de não renovar o Grêmio e, inclusive, chegou a recusar propostas de Santos e Vasco em dezembro do ano passado.
Com Renato Gaúcho chegam Alexandre Mendes e Marcelo Salles como auxiliares. Será a sétima passagem do técnico pelo tricolor.
O anúncio do Fluminense foi ao som de “oba, oba, oba, Renato chegou”, um funk criado pelos companheiros de time, Cadu e Márcio Costa, em 1995, que caiu nas graças da torcida tricolor.
Mário Bittencourt, presidente do Fluminense, passou a negociar com Renato Gaúcho logo após a recusa do técnico argentino Gabriel Milito, que alegou questões familiares e não aceitou a proposta tricolor. A negociação com o ex-comandante do Grêmio caminhou rapidamente para um desfecho positivo.
Fluminense e Renato resolveram rápido a questão salarial, que era um impasse para o anúncio oficial acontecer. A pedida do treinador era na casa de R$ 1,5 milhão por mês e o time carioca teve que esticar a corda para fechar a contratação. Após a reunião desta quinta-feira, o acordo foi selado.
A tendência é que Renato Gaúcho já comande o time contra o Bragantino, no próximo domingo, pela segunda rodada do Campeonato Brasileiro. O interino Marcão estava comandando as atividades do Fluminense desde a demissão de Mano e, inclusive, esteve na beira do campo na vitória sobre o Once Caldas, pela Sul-Americana.

Esta será a sétima vez de Renato Gaúcho no comando do Fluminense. A mais vitoriosa dela foi entre 2007 e 2008, quando conquistou o título da Copa do Brasil de 2007 e também foi vice-campeão da Libertadores em 2008.
A primeira passagem de Renato Gaúcho como técnico do Fluminense foi em 1996, quando ainda era atleta e acumulou as duas funções. O treinador também comandou o clube de 2002 a 2003, voltando no fim do mesmo ano, em 2009 e em 2014, seu último trabalho no tricolor até então.
Ao todo, Renato Gaúcho soma 202 jogos como técnico do Fluminense, com 86 vitórias, 52 empates e 64 derrotas, com um aproveitamento de 51%. Como jogador, tem 71 jogos e 27 gols pelo clube entre 1995 e 1997.
