En este caso, el fatídico último mes se ha llevado por delante las opciones de ganar los tres títulos por los que porfiaba a la espera de la llegada del Mundial de Clubes.
Champions, Liga y Copa han ido cayendo como fruta madura cuando se ha tenido que elevar el nivel de exigencia en forma de rivales de primerísimo nivel. De poder salir líder en Getafe antes de cerrar las dos eliminatorias a verse fuera de todo a falta de nueve jornadas para el final de una temporada que apuntaba a tocar metal y se quedará en nada.
Pese a ello, el mensaje en el club es de seguir adelante como siempre. “Hay que levantarse”, deslizan los que mandan en los despachos sabiendo que quedan 27 puntos en juego para acabar LaLiga lo más arriba posible (Barça y Madrid están a 9 y 6 puntos mientras el Athletic empuja desde el cuarto lugar) como demanda la historia de la entidad.

Precedentes… con títulos
No sería la primera vez que el Atleti del Cholo se levanta tras un duro golpe. De Lisboa, de aquella primera final perdida, se repuso ganando la Supercopa de España precisamente ante el Real Madrid. Un título de mucho menor calado pero que es buen ejemplo de la capacidad de superarse de este Atletico.
También lo logró tras el duro golpe que supuso no meterse en los cruces de Champions de la 17-18. Se metió en la Europa League que acabó ganando para comprar el billete a la Supercopa de Europa ante Real Madrid ganada en Tallin.
Post pandemia y post Mundial
Otras dos ocasiones en las que el Atleti se levantó fue después del parón de la pandemia del Covid. El fútbol se paró con los de Simeone fuera de Champions y regresó con una gran racha para alcanzar casi el segundo puesto… y poner los cimientos de la que sería la segunda Liga del cholismo.

Otro parón al que llegó muerto el conjunto del Metropolitano fue el del Mundial de Qatar. Justo antes se había quedado por segunda vez fuera de los cruces de Champions. Aunque estaba muy lejos en LaLiga también, la vuelta al fútbol tras la atípica cita fuera de verano acabó con el Atlético remontando y peleando con los de arriba. Justo lo que necesita ahora.
El club destaca la competitividad
Desde los despachos del Metropolitano se valora, además, que el equipo ha competido al máximo con dos transatlánticos que les doblan en presupuesto llevándoles a los penaltis (y cómo fueron esos penaltis al Madrid) y a acabar defendiéndose en su área al Barcelona. Valorar, en definitiva, que se ha competido de tú a tú con dos de los mejores equipos del mundo. De ahí que no existan dudas de que el equipo va a reaccionar y levantarse.
