El último de los campos de tierra: sin Mikasa y con la camiseta del Espanyol

Los campos de tierra están en vías de extinción y en Madrid solo queda uno en la Dehesa de la Villa. El césped artificial ha conquistado el fútbol base y ya no hay ni rastro de Mikasas, de heridas de guerra en esa tierra que a veces parecía lija ni de barrizales tras días de lluvia que dejaban el campo impracticable. 

La generación X -nacidos entre 1965 y 1980- no conoció la modernidad de los campos de césped artificial y sí aquellos campos de tierra embarrados en los que apenas se veían las líneas de cal, no había botas de colorines y donde se dejaron la piel entre pelotazos del Mikasa que dejaban señal para toda la semana. 

Hoy los niños no conocen las consecuencias de jugar en tierra, de que el balón no rodara sino culebreara, de que las costras en la piel se perpetuaran domingo tras domingo, de que los partidos se suspendieran cuando los charcos anegaban la tierra, pero hoy los mayores lo recuerdan con nostalgia cuando ven a sus hijos o nietos en los césped de última generación.

“Estoy encantado de jugar en tierra, porque jugar en barro es volver a años atrás”, nos cuenta uno de los futbolistas del Espanyol de Madrid que juega en el campo de la Dehesa de la Villa. No hay balones Mikasa porque la Federación Madrileña llegó a un acuerdo con Kromex para que fuera el balón oficial. 

Y es que en el fútbol madrileño hay un equipo que desafía la modernidad y mantiene una esencia casi inexistente: el Espanyol de Madrid. A pesar de su nombre y colores, que recuerdan inevitablemente al RCD Espanyol de Barcelona, su historia es única.

El vínculo con el club catalán no es una casualidad. Enrique Fernández Morcillo, conocido como ‘Morci’, es el actual director deportivo y entrenador del primer equipo. Su relación con directivos del Espanyol de Barcelona se remonta a sus inicios como entrenador en 1988. Gracias a su gestión, con autorización del club perico y una gran pasión e imaginación, nació el Recreativo Cultural Deportivo Espanyol de Madrid.

El Espanyol de Madrid juega en Primera Regional, la tercera categoría territorial en la Comunidad madrileña, y disputó la Copa de Aficionados en la que se lucha por clasificarse para la Copa del Rey.

El equipo madrileño se fundó en 2016 con la ayuda y el apoyo del Espanyol de Barcelona, que desde entonces le envía material deportivo cada temporada. Sin embargo, lo que realmente hace especial a este club es su campo: es el único equipo de Madrid que sigue jugando en tierra.

Desde su creación, el Espanyol de Madrid disputa sus partidos como local en un campo de tierra del barrio de Dehesa de la Villa. Mientras la mayoría de equipos han dado el salto al césped artificial o natural, ellos mantienen viva una tradición que muchos consideran parte de la esencia del fútbol.

Para los jugadores del Espanyol de Madrid, jugar en tierra es un orgullo. Bogdan Circoi, pichichi de la temporada pasada, lo tiene claro: “Estoy encantado de jugar en tierra y barro, te transporta a muchos años atrás”. Los futbolistas locales han desarrollado una adaptación natural a este tipo de superficie, pero para los equipos visitantes la experiencia suele ser más complicada.

No obstante, ‘Morci’ reconoce que esta peculiaridad también supone una desventaja para su equipo: mientras los rivales solo juegan un partido al año en estas condiciones, el Espanyol de Madrid debe cambiar de superficie en la mitad de los encuentros de la temporada.

Detrás de la conservación del campo está Felipe Delgado, mano derecha de ‘Morci’ y responsable de que, a pesar de las dificultades, el terreno de juego esté en las mejores condiciones posibles. Su labor es incansable, especialmente cuando la lluvia convierte la tierra en un barrizal difícil de manejar.

A pesar de todo lo que rodea al último equipo que juega en tierra, Enrique Fernández tiene claro que ha llegado el momento de evolucionar. El principal motivo es la captación de nuevos jugadores, ya que la mayoría de futbolistas prefieren el césped.

El Espanyol de Madrid ya ha iniciado conversaciones con el Ayuntamiento de Madrid para hacer la transición. No todos los jugadores están de acuerdo con el cambio, pero parece que solo es cuestión de tiempo para que el club deje atrás su histórica superficie de tierra y dé el salto a una nueva etapa. 

El día que desaparezca este campo de tierra en la Dehesa de la Villa ya no habrá ni rastro en Madrid de los terrenos de juego en los que muchas generaciones crecieron y disfrutaron jugando al fútbol. Y el fútbol moderno ya será monopolio del césped natural y artificial.
