Shilo Sanders, the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer and Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, won’t be driving away in a new car any time soon. After making a high-stakes bet with his father ahead of Colorado’s pro day, Shilo came up short of the benchmark that would have earned him a brand-new ride.
The challenge? Run the 40-yard dash in 4.29 seconds or faster. The prize? A car courtesy of Coach Prime. While Shilo showed solid athleticism and competitive fire, he ultimately clocked in at 4.52 seconds-respectable, but well outside the elite time required to win the bet.
“I told him if he runs 4.29, I’d buy him a car,” Deion said with a grin. “He ran a 4.59 the first time, then a 4.52. So, no car.” The moment was vintage Prime Time-equal parts motivation, performance, and spectacle. Despite the lighthearted disappointment, Shilo handled the outcome with humility and humor, laughing alongside his father after the result.
A family affair on the field
Shilo wasn’t the only Sanders family member at the center of attention during Colorado’s pro day. His younger brother, Shedeur Sanders, also showcased his skills in front of NFL scouts and team executives. With both brothers preparing for potential NFL careers, the event turned into a showcase of talent, family pride, and Coach Prime’s unique flair.
Though Shilo didn’t meet the bet’s requirement, his performance still highlighted his potential as a physical, instinctive defensive back. The 4.52-second 40-yard dash, while not jaw-dropping, is solid for a safety and aligns with his physical play style on the field.
Bet or not, Shilo‘s NFL dreams remain alive. The new car will have to wait-but the league is still very much within reach.
