Kerry Carpenter blasted his third home run in two days and drove in two runs as the host Detroit Tigers downed the visiting Chicago White Sox 7-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Spencer Torkelson supplied a solo homer and Riley Greene had two hits while scoring a run and knocking in another. Justin-Henry Malloy scored two runs and drove in another as the Tigers won for the fourth time in five games.

Detroit starter Reese Olson (1-1) allowed 10 baserunners in six innings but only gave up two runs while recording five strikeouts. Beau Brieske pitched a scoreless inning and John Brebbia finished up with two scoreless frames.

Andrew Vaughn had an RBI double for the White Sox and Korey Lee contributed three hits and a run. Starter Davis Martin (0-1) was tagged for all seven runs on nine hits in five innings as Chicago lost its fourth straight.

The White Sox pieced together a run in the first. Luis Robert walked and Andrew Benintendi advanced him with a single. Vaughn’s one-out double knocked in Robert but Olson escaped further damage with a strikeout and groundout.

Detroit moved ahead in the bottom of the inning. Malloy led off with a double and moved to third on Carpenter’s long flyout. Greene singled to right to bring him home.

A Torkelson double moved Greene to third. After a strikeout, Andy Ibanez’s infield single scored Greene.

Detroit made it 4-1 with two out in the second. Malloy drew a walk before Carpenter pulled a Martin pitch over the right field wall.

The Tigers added three runs in third. Torkelson led off with a homer to left. Colt Keith walked, Ibanez was hit by a pitch and Jake Rogers singled to load the bases. Trey Sweeney’s fielder’s-choice grounder scored Keith and Malloy’s sacrifice fly drove in Ibanez.

Chicago made it 7-2 in the fifth. The White Sox loaded the bases with two singles and a walk, and Lee scored on Robert’s double-play grounder.

Steelers draft picks, grades 2025: Pittsburgh passes on Shedeur Sanders in Round 3, takes RB Kaleb Johnson

USATSI Just as they did in the first round, the Pittsburgh Steelers passed on drafting quarterback Shedeur Sanders in the third round. The Steelers instead chose to select former Iowa running back Kaleb Johnson with the 83rd overall pick. The Steelers needed a running back to replace Najee Harris, and they're surely hoping that Johnson can fill Harris' shoes while complementing Jaylen Warren in Pittsburgh's backfield. During his final year at Iowa, Johnson led the Big 10 with 1,537 yards and 21 touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards-per-carry. He also caught 22 passes for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Last year, Johnson had eight games with at least 100 rushing yards that included a season-high 206 yards and three touchdowns in a win over Minnesota. Like Harris, the 6-foot-1, 224-pound Johnson is a big, physical back who can consistently move the chains. Johnson also […]

2025 NFL Draft: Cowboys stop Shavon Revel Jr.’s fall at No. 76; CB fills big need for Dallas

Getty Images FRISCO, Texas -- The cornerback position was one of the Dallas Cowboys' biggest remaining needs entering Day 2 of the 2025 NFL Draft. As a result, the team is selecting East Carolina cornerback Shavon Revel Jr. with the 76th overall pick in the third round to stop the fall for what might be a first-round talent. Revel totaled 17 passes defended and three interceptions in his last 15 college starts, but an ACL injury in practice following the Pirates' third game of the 2024 season ended his college career. The Cowboys likely felt comfortable drafting Revel because head team doctor Dr. Daniel E. Cooper did his surgery and sent a letter to NFL teams to tell them he was on pace to be fully cleared in the summer. He has great traits, standing at 6-foot-2 while weighing 194 pounds with a […]

How far will Shedeur Sanders fall in NFL Draft? Colorado QB still available in Round 3 as Steelers pass on him

Getty Images Shedeur Sanders may believe he's the best quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft class, but NFL teams apparently feel otherwise. After going unselected in the first round on Thursday night, Sanders was also completely overlooked in Round 2, when Louisville's Tyler Shough became the next quarterback to come off the board. He's now slid deep into the third round, even past the quarterback-needy Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 83 overall. His dramatic tumble comes hours after CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones indicated there wasn't necessarily a strong market for the Colorado signal-caller at the top of Round 2, despite several quarterback-needy teams like the Cleveland Browns owning picks to kick off Day 2. The Steelers, who passed on Sanders in the first round at No. 21 overall, had another chance to secure the passer at No. 83, only to select […]
