Bayern-Sportvorstand im „Doppelpass“ – Welchen Fehler Eberl beim Thema Müller zugibt

Es ist Tag eins nach dem Müller-Drama.

Sportvorstand Max Eberl (51) spricht im „Doppelpass“ offen darüber, warum der Klub nicht mit Bayern-Legende Thomas Müller (35) verlängerte – und erklärt eine seiner Äußerungen im Januar, die wohl für Verwirrung bei Müller sorgte.

Eberl: „Ich habe im Januar diese Äußerung getätigt und um die baut sich berechtigterweise alles auf. Ich muss sagen, ich war vielleicht nicht so schlau, das zu sagen. Ich war aber auch nicht so schlau, weil ich auch einfach emotional war, weil ich mir eine Bundesliga und einen FC Bayern ohne Thomas Müller nicht vorstellen konnte.“

Der Sportvorstand hatte damals gesagt: „Er braucht ja nicht großartig verhandeln. Wenn er sagt, er hat Lust weiterzumachen, dann werden wir uns tief in die Augen schauen, schauen uns den Kader an und dann wird es weitergehen.“

Diese Aussage sieht er im Nachhinein als Fehler an.

„Es ist das passiert, was leider im Sport passiert. Die Einsatzzeiten von Thomas waren in der Hinrunde noch umfangreich, sind dann rapide abgefallen. Und dann haben wir uns halt in der sportlichen Leitung Gedanken gemacht, mit Christoph Freund zusammen, mit Vincent Kompany, wie soll der Kader für die Zukunft aussehen, wie gehen wir mit Spielern um, wo wir Verträge verlängern wollen. Wir haben dann irgendwann für uns in der Sportleitung eine Entscheidung gefällt, wo wir gesagt haben, okay, wir würden den Vertrag nicht verlängern wollen.“

In diesem Kalenderjahr ist Müller größtenteils nur noch Ergänzungsspieler. In der Champions League stand er 79 Minuten und in der Bundesliga 350 Minuten auf dem Platz

Eberl weiter: „Wir haben das dann mit dem Vorstand abgestimmt, mit Michael Diederich (Finanzvorstand, d.Red.) und Jan-Christian Dreesen (CEO, d.Red.). Wir haben zusammen diskutiert, weil Thomas Müller natürlich kein gewöhnlicher Spieler ist. Das ist eine Legende. Wir werden nachher noch berechtigterweise sein ganzes Lebenswerk beschreiben. Dementsprechend wussten wir, wie kompliziert die Entscheidung ist und jeder, das bitte ich einfach auch zu verstehen, bei allem, dass ich eine Entscheidung zu fällen hatte oder wir eine Entscheidung zu fällen hatten, ist mir das emotional extrem nah gegangen.“

Auch im Bayern-Aufsichtsrat habe Einigung in dieser Personalie geherrscht, so Eberl. „Wir haben mit Herrn Hainer gesprochen, mit Karl-Heinz Rummenigge gesprochen, mit Uli Hoeneß gesprochen, haben denen das mitgeteilt. Und es herrscht Einigkeit.“

Eberl über das entscheidende Gespräch mit Müller im März: „Ich verstehe auch übrigens, dass Thomas mit dem Gefühl in das Gespräch gegangen ist und er danach enttäuscht war. Ich habe totales Verständnis dafür. Ich habe mein Gespräch begonnen, indem ich gesagt habe: Thomas, ich habe jetzt drei Tage echt beschissen geschlafen, weil mich das wirklich bedrückt und weil ich weiß, was ich gesagt habe und weil ich wirklich wusste, was ich ihm gleich mitteilen werde. Und deswegen, das war nicht schön.“

Zur Müllers Reaktion verriet der Sportvorstand: „Natürlich war er sauer, natürlich war er traurig, natürlich hat er es nicht verstanden. Aber ich kann jetzt am Ende sagen – und das ist das, was man eben auch nicht ganz vergessen kann, und das ist ein großer Verdienst von Thomas – haben wir es geschafft, dass eben nicht alles kaputtgegangen ist.“
