O víkendu padla i teoretická šance, že by se skomírající Bruins nějakou záhadou protlačili do play off. Pastrňákových pět bodů (3+2) bylo ale pro fanoušky dalším důkazem, jak výjimečného hráče mohou při všem tom letošním zmaru sledovat. „Jsem hrdý, že můžu hrát pro tento klub a město,“ líčil Pastrňák, který je velkým kandidátem, aby v příští sezoně nosil na dresu kapitánské céčko po Bradu Marchandovi, jenž byl vyměněn do Floridy.
Už na podzim vedení Bruins vyjadřovalo obavy, v listopadu byl vyhozen kouč Jim Montgomery. Před uzávěrkou přestupů se konal velký výprodej a výkony týmu se propadaly do čím dál větší beznaděje, což vyvrcholilo desetizápasovou sérií porážek a žuchnutím na dno Východní konference.
„Jako tým jsme ve složité situaci. Chtěl bych, abychom na tom byli jinak,“ povzdechl si Pastrňák, který jako vůbec první Čech v dějinách NHL zaznamenal čtyři čtyřicetigólové sezony v řadě. Ani Jaromír Jágr tohle nezvládl. „Pro sebevědomí je to důležité. Chci být ještě lepším hokejistou – jak v dalších zápasech, tak v příští sezoně,“ prohlásil Pastrňák, který sobotní bostonský večer opepřil skutečně krásnými akcemi.

Při prvním gólu pálil nečekaně z otočky na úrovni brankové čáry, ve třetí třetině pak mistrovsky tečoval puk ze vzduchu do horního růžku, a čepice létaly na led, když forhendovým blafákem rozebral dánského gólmana Hurricanes Frederika Andersena.
Ještě na Silvestra měl Pastrňák přitom na kontě pouhých 13 gólů, což bylo způsobeno i zraněním během letní přípravy a následným velmi volným vstupem do sezony. Od 1. ledna je ovšem 28letý útočník nejlepším střelcem NHL s 27 trefami, s 57 body pak druhým nejproduktivnějším hráčem z Nikitou Kučerovem. Z aktivních hokejistů má na kontě víc hattricků (32) pouze nejlepší střelec dějin soutěže Alexandr Ovečkin.
Pokud se před lety tvrdilo, že neexistuje naděje, aby někdo sesadil ze střeleckého trůnu Waynea Gretzkyho, mohli bychom si zavěštit, že Pastrňák v NHL nastřílí víc branek než Jágr. Nejlepší evropský střelec jich má na kontě 766, Pasta je s 388 zásahy za polovinou a nejlepší roky má snad ještě před sebou…
Víkendová jízda navíc Pastrňáka posunula na 4. místo celkových statistik sezony s 94 body (40+54). A v posledních pěti zápasech by se spoluhráči z Bruins měli soustředit na to, aby se jejich lídr dostal na stovku, což by bylo potřetí v řadě. To se během kariéry nepovedlo ani Jágrovi.

„Máme ještě několik zápasů do konce, tak musíme přeskupit síly a ukončit sezonu na správné vlně,“ prohlásil státotvorně.
