Beim spanischen Fernsehsender „La Sexta“ sagte der Angreifer in der Sendung „El Objetivo“: „Ich wollte für Real Madrid spielen. Und es war keine schwierige Entscheidung, zwischen Real Madrid und dem Geld zu wählen. Das Einzige, was ich wollte, war, hier im Bernabéu in diesem Trikot zu spielen, dass die Zuschauer meinen Namen rufen, Tore schießen und glücklich sein.“

Eine Aussage, die für Wut bei den Anhängern seines Ex-Klubs sorgte. Immerhin war Mbappé während seiner Zeit in Paris (2017 bis 2024) zum Weltstar gereift und liefert sich momentan mit dem Verein noch einen Rechtsstreit um vermeintlich ausstehende Zahlungen.
Stunden nach Ausstrahlung des Interviews musste sich Mbappé in den sozialen Medien zu Wort melden. Demnach habe es sich um ein Missverständnis gehandelt.
Mbappé schrieb auf „X“ (vormals Twitter): „Kein Bezug zu PSG. Die Frage bezog sich auf den nächsten Schritt und die Wahl von zum Beispiel Arabien oder einem Verein wie Real.“
Und weiter: „Konzentrieren Sie sich auf das, was in Frankreich passiert, der Rest ist nichts für Sie, da Sie es nicht verstehen. Küsschen.“ Klare Worte des Superstars.
Im Interview sprach Mbappé auch über die Idole seiner Kindheit. Der Knipser: „Ich bin wegen (Zinedine) Zidane ein Fan von Real Madrid geworden. Dann kam Cristiano (Ronaldo, Anm. d. Red.) … er ist mein anderes großes Idol. Ich habe alle Spiele als Kind und sogar als Spieler gesehen!“
Mit den Königlichen stehen für Mbappé in der Champions League die Viertelfinal-Duelle gegen Arsenal an. Am Dienstag (21 Uhr) muss Real zunächst in London ran.
