In the aftermath of the tragic incident at a Frisco, Texas, track meet, where 17-year-old high school athlete Austin Metcalf was fatally stabbed, the community has rallied to support the legal defense of the accused, Karmelo Anthony.
A fundraising campaign on GiveSendGo has amassed over $185,000 to aid Anthony‘s legal expenses.
On April 2, 2025, during a track meet at Kuykendall Stadium, an altercation between Metcalf and Anthony escalated, resulting in Metcalf being stabbed in the chest.
Witnesses reported that the dispute began when Metcalf asked Anthony to leave the Memorial High School team tent.
Anthony allegedly responded, “Touch me and see what happens,” before the confrontation turned fatal. Metcalf was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Anthony was subsequently arrested and charged with first-degree murder, with bond set at $1 million.
Misinformation and Official Warnings
Following the incident, a surge of misinformation has spread across social media platforms.
Fake accounts impersonating Frisco Police Chief David Shilson and the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office have disseminated false narratives about the events leading up to Metcalf’s death.
One fabricated post falsely claimed that Metcalf died from a drug overdose, while another alleged a “mutual combat altercation” initiated by Metcalf.
Authorities have refuted these claims and cautioned the public against sharing unverified information. Chief Shilson emphasized that impersonating a law enforcement officer is a third-degree felony and is under investigation.
Community Response and Legal Proceedings
In response to the charges against Anthony, his family established a legal defense fund, which has garnered significant support, reflecting the community’s investment in ensuring a fair trial.
Anthony‘s legal team, including attorneys Kim Cole and Billy Clark, known for their work in civil rights cases, has expressed condolences to Metcalf’s family and called for patience and respect for the legal process.
They are seeking a reduction of Anthony‘s “excessive” $1 million bond and are committed to ensuring his rights are protected throughout the criminal justice proceedings.
As the case progresses, both families have received an outpouring of support from the community. Metcalf‘s family has also initiated a fundraiser, which has raised nearly $250,000 to assist with expenses.
Authorities continue to urge the public to rely on verified sources for information and to refrain from spreading unconfirmed details that could hinder the investigation.
