Nirvana fans have received some unexpected news. One of Kurt Cobain‘s guitars is to be auctioned off, and what’s more, it’s the white Fender Stratocaster that the musician smashed during his European tour in 1992.
This Wednesday, April 9, the bidding for it will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the United States, starting at a minimum price of $30,000. The guitar was repaired during the tour itself, when the group was presenting their new album ‘Nevermind’.
It was authenticated and inspected by the famous guitar technician Big John Duncan, as he did with another Fender Stratocaster, but in this case blue, which he smashed in the 90s, selling for half a million euros in 2023. That guitar was a 1969 blue Fender Mustang that can be seen in the video clip of Nirvana’s famous song ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’.

This valuable piece of rock memorabilia will be sold online on the GottaHaveRockAndRoll platform, just days after the 31st anniversary of Kurt’s death. He committed suicide by shooting himself in the head on April 5, 1994, at the age of 27.
Regarding his death, fans have put forward many theories, such as that he did not really commit suicide, hinting that he was murdered. The investigation always maintained that a suicide note was found at his home, as well as a 20-gauge semi-automatic shotgun in his left hand.
An investigator, Tom Grant, published details of the report, which states that he died with a mixture of substances in his body. In fact, in several photographs of the crime scene, a heroin kit and several other objects can be seen inside a cigar box.
