Just a few hours after Houston debuted at No. 1 in Version 1 of the 2025-26 CBS Sports preseason Top 25 And 1 college basketball rankings, the Cougars got better by securing a commitment from Creighton transfer Pop Isaacs.
So the strongest is now stronger.
Isaacs is a 6-foot-2 guard from Las Vegas who has averaged 14.2 points, 3.2 assists and 3.0 rebounds through 67 games at the Division I level — 59 of which were played at Texas Tech, the most recent eight at Creighton. For the Bluejays this past year, Isaacs averaged 16.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists while shooting 38.3% from 3-point range on 7.5 attempts per contest before hip surgery ended his season in December. In what ended up being his final appearance at Creighton, Isaacs got 27 points, seven rebounds and four assists in a 76-63 victory over Bill Self’s Kansas Jayhawks.
Isaacs will now join a roster projected to return four of the top seven scorers — specifically Emanuel Sharp, Milos Uzan, Terrance Arceneaux and Joseph Tugler — from a team that finished 35-5 after falling to Florida in Monday’s championship game of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. That experienced group will be joined by a recruiting class that’s currently ranked second nationally, according to 247Sports, and highlighted by five-star prospect Chris Cenac Jr. and four-star prospects Isiah Harwell and Kingston Flemings.
Houston remains No. 1 in Version 2 of the 2025-26 CBS Sports preseason Top 25 And 1 — though it’s reasonable to wonder if Isaacs’ commitment is an indication that one Houston’s talented guards could be on the move, either to the 2025 NBA Draft or transfer portal. The transfer portal doesn’t close until April 22. The deadline for underclassmen to enter the NBA Draft is April 26. The deadline to withdraw is June 15.
