Der ehemalige Bundesliga-Stürmer Nils Petersen (36) spricht über seine beruflichen Pläne, Urlaubsfotos von Streich und Fußball mit dem Ex-Bundestrainer.
SPORT BILD: Herr Petersen, Sie haben im Sommer 2023 Ihre Profi-Karriere beendet. Wie läuft die Fußball-Rente?
Nils Petersen: Ich kann mich nicht beklagen. Ich bin regelmäßig als Experte bei RTL, bei Sky oder Magenta im Einsatz oder halte Keynote-Vorträge. Insgesamt genieße ich die Selbstständigkeit. Und zum Glück muss ich sonntags nicht mehr zum Training und eine Stunde Videoanalyse machen (schmunzelt). Aber es ist auch ein wenig die Ruhe vor dem Sturm. Irgendwann wird hoffentlich das Vereinsleben folgen.
Haben Sie konkrete Pläne?
Ich würde gerne auf Management-Ebene einsteigen. Bis jetzt hat es sich aber noch nichts Konkretes ergeben.
[–>Gab es schon Anfragen?
Ich denke, dass die meisten davon ausgehen, dass ich irgendwann wieder beim SC Freiburg lande. Das war und ist ja auch der Plan. Wir hatten vor dem Karriereende darüber gesprochen und es ist natürlich naheliegend, dort zu beginnen. Aktuell gibt es aber zeitlich und inhaltlich nichts Spruchreifes.
Sie leben in Freiburg. Gelegentlich schauen Sie auch noch mal am Trainingsgelände vorbei, richtig?
Ja, genau. Dann esse ich mit den Jungs, rede über alte Zeiten und ärgere die Physios. Das macht Spaß. Freiburg ist vergleichsweise überschaubar. Ich sehe die Ex-Mitspieler ständig und gehe auch so oft wie möglich zu den Heimspielen.
Sie und Ex-Trainer Christian Streich wohnen nur knapp vier Kilometer Luftlinie voneinander entfernt. Treffen Sie ihn schon mal beim Sonntagsspaziergang?
Kurioserweise nicht. Aber wir haben im Januar länger telefoniert und uns darüber ausgetauscht, wie es ihm geht. Er ist nach wie vor zufrieden mit seiner Entscheidung, aufgehört zu haben. Kurz davor hatte er mir Urlaubsfotos von seiner Südamerika-Reise geschickt. Da habe ich nur zurückgeschrieben: Ich bin gerade im Schwarzwald, ich schicke deshalb keine Bilder zurück. Hier kennen Sie ja alles schon.‘“
Siezen Sie Streich noch?
Bei unserem jüngsten Telefonat hat er mir mehrfach das Du angeboten und ich habe ihn trotzdem aus alter Gewohnheit hartnäckig weiter gesiezt. Er ist und bleibt eine große Respektsperson. Auch wenn er nicht mehr mein Chef ist. Aber ja, jetzt sind wir wohl per Du.

Das heißt?
Bestimmt alle zwei Wochen. Wir kicken häufig donnerstags hier zusammen in einer Soccerhalle.
Da hätten wir gerne Details.
Wir haben eine WhatsApp-Gruppe. Wenn man irgendwann mal in Freiburg gespielt hat, kommt man automatisch da rein (lacht). Und dann verabreden wir uns. Da sind viele dabei, die gerne bolzen und relativ gutes Niveau haben. Wir spielen auf Kunstrasen, mit Bande drumherum – richtig cool.

Hat es Löw noch drauf?
Ich staune immer, dass er eine Stunde fast ohne Unterbrechung durchhält. Er ist ja gefühlt doppelt so alt wie ich (lacht). Er macht dann auch immer seine Tore. Man sieht, dass er es draufhat.
Wer ist noch in der Gruppe?
Zum Beispiel Carmen Höfflin, die ab und zu für DAZN arbeitet. Die ehemalige Nationalspielerin Melanie Behringer ist auch dabei. Witzig ist, dass Jogi und ich häufig in dasselbe Team gelost werden. Dann sagt er immer zum Spaß: ,Ah, jetzt spielen hier wieder die beiden Top-Torschützen vom SC zusammen.‘’“

Sie sind wahrscheinlich der Top-Star in der Soccerhalle, oder? Immerhin haben Sie Ihre Profi-Karriere erst vor eineinhalb Jahren beendet.
Das könnte man denken! Aber die Regeln sind tatsächlich so gemacht, dass das gar nicht so einfach ist. Man darf zum Beispiel nur direkt abschließen. Ich bin schon häufig als Verlierer vom Platz gegangen.

Freiburg hat diese Saison nur sieben seiner 38 Tore durch Stürmer erzielt. Würde jetzt ein Nils Petersen in Bestform helfen?
Vermutlich würde ich gar nicht spielen. Julian Schusters (Freiburg-Trainer; d. Red.) System ist so ausgelegt, dass vorn ein Arbeiter und Wühler gesetzt ist. Mit Michael Gregoritsch haben sie einen sehr, sehr guten Neuner. Der hat mich ja damals schon verdrängt. Das System ist aber nicht einfach für einen Spieler wie ihn. Der zentrale Stürmer muss viel gegen den Ball arbeiten, da fehlt dann manchmal auch die letzte Kraft im Abschluss. Deswegen ist der SC auch angewiesen auf Ritsu Doan und Vince Grifo (jeweils acht Treffer in dieser Saison).
Apropos Doan. Er ist unter anderem bei Eintracht Frankfurt im Gespräch. Wie bitter wäre ein Abgang für Freiburg?
Ich wünsche dem SC natürlich nicht, dass er geht. Er ist ein Ausnahmespieler. Aber es ist logisch, dass andere Vereine ihn auf dem Zettel haben. Auf der anderen Seite haben wir in den vergangenen Jahren immer wieder sehr gute Spieler verkaufen müssen. Im schlimmsten Fall bekommen wir eine Stange Schmerzens-Geld.

Julian Schuster wird am 15. April übrigens 40 Jahre alt. Wollen Sie Ihrem ehemaligen Kapitän einen Gruß ausrichten?
Oh, danke für die Erinnerung! Julian ist einen unfassbaren Weg gegangen. Der hat mit 20 Jahren noch in der Bezirksliga beim FV Löchgau gespielt, war dann Bundesliga-Kapitän und ist jetzt Bundesliga-Trainer – Wahnsinn! Ich wünsche ihm, dass es nur ansatzweise so weiterläuft. Alle haben erwartet, dass es nach Christian Streich einen Bruch gibt. Das Gegenteil ist der Fall.
Welche Anekdote fällt Ihnen als Erstes ein, wenn Sie an Ihren ehemaligen Kapitän und jetzigen Freiburg-Trainer Julian Schuster denken?
Dass ich ihn am Anfang gar nicht verstanden habe. Er hat mit einem so ausgeprägt schwäbischen Dialekt gesprochen, dass ich echt meine Probleme hatte. Jetzt als Cheftrainer und bei den Medien ist das kaum noch zu hören. Das war beim ersten Abendessen damals im Trainingslager anders (lacht). Deswegen musste ich immer nachfragen. Das war mir extrem unangenehm als Neuzugang – ich war damals 26 –, den Kapitän immer wieder um Wiederholung zu bitten. Das hat auch auf dem Platz für Missverständnisse gesorgt.
Schafft er mit Freiburg den Sprung nach Europa?
Ich habe vor der Saison gesagt: Wenn wir nach dem Umbruch im Sommer Zehnter werden, ist das völlig okay. Ich finde es nach wie vor überraschend, dass wir so gut dastehen. Aber klar: Es wäre natürlich geil, wenn es wieder nach Europa geht.
