James Cook is desperate for a new contract
The still-running back of the Buffalo Bills has a salary of $5.3 million for 2025, the last year of his rookie contract, and has stated that he wants a $15 million per year deal, something that general manager Brandon Beane has not taken well.
Despite Cook’s frustration with the Buffalo Bills, the running back, according to Ian Rapoport from NFL Media, has reported that he will play in the 2025 season, although he also revealed that the situation between the two parties “is not good.”
James Cook is a product of the second round of the 2022 Draft and already has a couple of 1,000-yard seasons under his belt. On top of that, he scored 16 rushing touchdowns last season, and now, if he doesn’t reach an agreement with the Bills, he will become a free agent in 2026.
Cook wants to be on par with Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley
Saquon Barkley, the star running back for the Philadelphia Eagles, signed a two-year, $41.2 million contract extension in March 2025, becoming the highest-paid running back in NFL history.
Barkley’s new deal surpassed that of Christian McCaffrey, who signed a two-year, $38 million extension with the San Francisco 49ers, with $24 million guaranteed. It’s at that table that James Cook wants to sit, but it seems it will be very difficult.
