Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy and his former fiancée Tia Jones have officially ended their legal standoff.
The two have agreed to withdraw all legal actions against each other, bringing a months-long dispute to a close.
As reported by TMZ Sports, the pair reached a confidential settlement this week, which led to the dismissal of Worthy‘s lawsuit against Jones and the mutual withdrawal of protective order requests.
The decision marks the end of a saga that drew national attention and could have threatened Worthy‘s promising NFL career.
“I regret any misunderstandings or conflicts that arose during my relationship with my ex-fiancée,” Worthy shared in a public statement.
“I also acknowledge that my legal representatives may have made public statements about my ex-fiancée that were intended to protect me, but were misstated.”
Serious Allegations Lead to Legal Action
The fallout began earlier this year when Jones filed for a protective order against Worthy, accusing him of domestic violence.
In one reported incident dated March 7, Jones claimed Worthy allegedly became physically aggressive after she failed to give attention to him and his dog following her training session. This accusation led to Worthy‘s brief arrest.
In response, the wide receiver filed his own legal complaint, alleging that Jones vandalized his property, stole $300,000 in valuables, and physically assaulted him by pulling out his dreadlocks. Worthy also filed for a protective order of his own.
However, after further investigation, the district attorney’s office opted not to pursue charges against Worthy. With both sides facing legal pressure and public scrutiny, negotiations led to a private settlement and the mutual decision to end the court proceedings.
Jones‘ attorney, Angelica Cogliano, confirmed the resolution in a short statement: “This matter has now been settled.”
Worthy, reflecting on the emotional nature of the breakup, added: “Ending a relationship that spanned over a year can be an emotional experience, and sometimes words are spoken out of hurt and frustration. This matter has now been settled.”
Future Focus for Worthy and Jones
Worthy and Jones began dating in late 2023 and were engaged by the summer of 2024. Their relationship, once viewed as a rising star union between elite athletes, quickly unraveled after the new year, leading to a highly publicized breakup.
Now, both are turning the page. Worthy, a standout from the University of Texas, is expected to participate in Chiefs training camp later this spring.
With off-field distractions now behind him, he’ll aim to solidify his role in Kansas City’s revamped offense alongside quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Jones, a decorated hurdler and track star, is preparing for upcoming competitions, with eyes on national and international events as she looks to continue her career in athletics.
While their personal relationship has come to an end, the resolution of their legal battle suggests a shared commitment to moving on without further conflict.
For now, both are focused on their individual futures-with lessons learned and the spotlight firmly fixed on their next steps.
