Kiel, Rhein-Neckar Löwen, Melsungen. Drei Top-Klubs haben sich für das Final4 am Wochenende in Köln qualifiziert. Für Aufsehen sorgte jedoch vor allem die Teilnahme von Zweitligist HBW Balingen-Weilstetten. Und der lässt es gleich mal richtig krachen.
„Wir sind seit Wochen damit beschäftigt, das zu einem Mega-Event werden zu lassen“, sagt Geschäftsführer Axel Kromer (48), der als früherer DHB-Sportdirektor Stammgast der Pokal-Endrunde war. „Es ist schön, dass sich so ein familiärer Verein so ein Event erarbeitet hat.“

Das startet am Samstag mit einem Fanmarsch vom Kölner Dom zur Lanxess Arena. Kromer: „Wir sind die Einzigen, die das dieses Mal organisieren. Da kann man sich drauf freuen, wenn viele Menschen in Balingen-Trikots und Fanmarsch-Helmen durch Köln über die Hohenzollernbrücke laufen. Natürlich sind auch alle anderen Handball-Fans eingeladen.“

Zudem wurde ein Partyboot auf dem Rhein gemietet. Kromer: „Die maximal 1000 Plätze wurden innerhalb von fünf Tagen verkauft. Das Boot wird schön in den Vereinsfarben blau-rot gestaltet und der DJ ist informiert, welche Musik er spielen soll.“
Handball-Pokal: Im Feiern ist Balingen schon mal ganz vorn dabei
Auch an die, die kein Ticket für Köln mehr bekommen haben oder es sich nicht leisten können, wurde gedacht. Für das Halbfinale gibt es ein Public-Viewing in Balingen. Kromer: „In der größten Szenekneipe, dem Naboo.“
[–>Klar ist auch schon, dass es für die Mannschaft – unabhängig vom Abschneiden – am Dienstag einen städtischen Empfang auf dem Marktplatz geben wird. Kromer: „Unser Oberbürgermeister wird unsere Mannschaft ehren und wir werden ein Handballfest arrangieren. Am Samstag geht es dann mit einem Ligaheimspiel gegen Hagen im Alltag weiter.“

Und was ist in Köln sportlich drin? Im Halbfinale wartet schließlich kein Geringerer als die MT Melsungen. Kromer: „Die Gegner sind schon Namen, die im Normalfall auch zu unseren Erstligazeiten eine Nummer zu groß waren. Aber Bietigheim hatte zuletzt komplett gegen Melsungen mitgehalten. Ein Team, wo wir uns auch Chancen ausrechnen würden, wenn wir gegen die mal spielen. Wenn wir es schaffen, dass wir es Melsungen schwierig machen, dann kann es uns gelingen, die Halle mit den neutralen Fans und den Anhängern von Kiel und den Löwen auf unsere Seite zu bekommen.“
Und dann könnte es womöglich auch zu einer Sensation kommen…
