Es ist überstanden. Standesgemäß könnte man bissig sagen. Mit einer Niederlage in Paris verabschieden sich Albas Basketballer aus der Euroleague.
War es das letzte Spiel für lange Zeit in der Königsklasse? Das wissen derzeit nicht einmal die Alba-Bosse. „Es gibt viele Unsicherheiten derzeit“, sagt Sportdirektor Himar Ojeda (52). „Ganz ehrlich: Ich kann es, Stand heute, nicht sagen.“

Auch wenn man aus der Euroleague sportlich nicht absteigen kann – die Ergebnisse sprechen nicht für Alba: Fünf Siege, 29 Niederlagen, Letzter. Die gleiche Bilanz wie schon im Jahr zuvor. Auch 2023/24 war Alba Schlusslicht.
Doch ein genauerer Blick macht die Chancenlosigkeit der Berliner in der Euroleague deutlich. Unterteilt man die Ergebnisse in drei Kategorien (knapp, deutlich, haushoch) fällt auf: Es gab keinen deutlichen oder gar haushohen Alba-Sieg. Alle fünf Erfolge waren knapp (neun Punkte Unterschied oder weniger).

Auf der Niederlagen-Seite ein ganz anderes Bild: acht knappe Ergebnisse, neun deutliche (10 bis 15 Punkte Unterschied) und sogar zwölf heftige Klatschen (16 oder mehr Punkte Differenz).
[–>Die höchsten Pleiten gab’s bei Efes Istanbul (73:98), bei den Bayern (88:115) und in Mailand (68:100). Und dann war da noch die historische Heimklatsche gegen Bologna (64:108) mit 44 Punkten Unterschied.
Auffällig: Alle vier Gegner waren nicht die Überflieger der diesjährigen Euroleague, beendeten die Saison nicht unter den Top 4.
Albas Sportdirektor Himar Ojeda: „Der Abstand ist größer geworden“
Erklärungsversuche. „Wir haben den geringsten Etat von allen Teams“, sagt Ojeda. „Ja, das war auch in der Vergangenheit so. Aber der Abstand ist größer geworden.“ Im Vergleich zu den anderen Teams im unteren Viertel fehlen Alba rund zwei Millionen Euro. „Die würden helfen, um uns zurück ins Rennen zu bringen. Für die Playoffs würde das aber wohl nicht reichen“, so Ojeda.

Trotzdem will Alba um einen Platz in der Euroleague kämpfen. „Wir wollen eine dauerhafte Lizenz, keine Wildcard. Eine Lizenz gibt uns Planungssicherheit und eine Perspektive, sowohl für die Spieler als auch für das Umfeld, die Sponsoren“, sagt Ojeda.
Doch offenbar bietet die Euroleague Alba erneut nur eine Wildcard an. „Davon habe ich auch gehört“, so Ojeda. „Aber wir haben bisher nichts Offizielles erhalten. Deshalb kann ich dazu auch nichts sagen. Nur, dass wir es uns genau anschauen werden, sobald es ein solches Angebot an uns gehen sollte.“

Bis dahin hängt Alba in der Warteschleife – was bei Vertragsgesprächen nicht hilft, so Ojeda. „Spieler brauchen eine Perspektive, wollen wissen, in welcher Liga sie spielen.“ 2024 erfuhren die Berliner erst im Juni, dass sie Euroleague spielen würden. „Nicht die beste Sache für die Planungen“, so Ojeda.
Immerhin: Kein Alba-Spieler hat in seinem Vertrag eine Ausstiegsklausel, falls der Klub nicht in der Euroleague antritt. „Alle Verträge sind unabhängig von der Liga, in der wir antreten“, bestätigt der Sportdirektor.
