In this same space we had already informed you of a class action lawsuit against theU.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that was filed some time ago by those affected by a request initiative in which people were illegally detained in jails and penitentiaries in the state ofNew York after their release date.ICE was looking for people to deport within jails, federal prisons and rehabilitation programs, and in order to initiate deportation proceedings, it issued an order requesting that they remain detained for 48 hours, which is clearly illegal.
Well, the lawsuit was settled last December in favor of the complainants, which resulted in $92.5 million in compensation, so these resources will be distributed among those affected, people who were detained after their scheduled release date, between April 1, 1997 and December 21, 2012.

Who qualifies for the payment?
Such detention under programs administered by the New York City Department of Correction must have been based on an express request from ICE, which is why no proof is required to file a claim form, as if eligible, the petitioner’s name should be on record.
Eligible individuals have already received a notification in the mail with an applicant ID number, which must be entered on the settlement website in order to access and submit an online claim form by May 15, 2025
Important information to know the amount of income
The so-called ‘Prescription Group’, who will receive checks worth between $10,000 and $24,000, includes people who were held beyond their scheduled release date between April 1, 1997 and January 31, 2007.
The ‘Recent Group’ includes those who were detained beyond their scheduled release date between February 1, 2007 and December 21, 2012, and its members could receive between $20,000 and $48,000 in compensation for the damage.
