After a great start to the season with eight consecutive wins, the Los Angeles Dodgers are considered one of the teams to reach the World Series and even lift the title for the second year in a row. However, they have lost four of their last six games, which, while not yet time to panic, is certainly a warning to fill holes before the trade deadline.
The position that has looked the most fragile in the Angels’ ninth inning in recent games has been second base and for Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, former New York Yankees infielder Gleyber Torres could be the solution. After the Bronx Bombers’ fall in the Fall Classic, Torres left the team and signed with the Detroit Tigers. Could the Los Angeles Dodgers sign him for the current campaign?

Without a doubt, having left the Yankees franchise to join the Tigers, Gleyber Torres’ value decreased considerably given that in 2024 he had a moderate performance with 15 home runs along with a .257 batting average and a .330 on-base percentage before an injury shortened his season. Now that he is about to return, Torres could become a highly sought-after player on the trade market.
After signing a one-year, $15 million contract with the Detroit Tigers, he has played just two games this season. That’s why manager AJ Hinch recently stated: “We haven’t exactly determined yet if he’ll need some extra rehab time to get back into shape. He’s doing high-speed work on a machine,” hinting that Torres could soon come off the 10-day disabled list without a minor league assignment.

The 2025 season is still very young to determine to make extreme changes. However, for Kerry Miller, second base and center field are positions that need to be looked at. In his analysis, he has determined that Tommy Edman is a very viable option to take over in center field instead of Andy Pages, while second base seems the easiest solution for the Dodgers’ infield.
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts will have to analyze whether the trade is feasible for Gleyber Torres to occupy second base. However, there is one condition: signing Torres could turn Hyeseong Kim, their $12.5 million player, into a utility player. Even so, given Torres’ experience and potential, the gamble could be worth it.
