Mikel Arteta has remained cautious on whether Kai Havertz could make a return from injury before the end of this season.
The Arsenal forward suffered a hamstring injury which required surgery on Arsenal’s mid-season trip to Dubai in February and was expected to aim for a return in pre-season. He posted a video on social media this week doing gym work.

Havertz was the second Arsenal player to require surgery for a hamstring injury this season after Bukayo Saka.
The England international took 101 days to make his return to action, and asked whether Havertz could do similar with the last game of the season 108 days after the confirmation of his injury, Arteta said: “So we have some extra days then?
“Every injury is (not) the same. The mindset of those two is very similar. (They both had) great injury history, great work ethic, desperate to get back playing as quickly as possible and great medical staff to look after them.
“Hopefully we can have him but let’s wait. Once you get to the last stage of that rehab is when you can understand better how close or far you are from making that next step.”
In the short-term, Arsenal’s focus has switched from the 3-0 Champions League quarter-final win over Real Madrid to hosting Brentford in the Premier League this weekend.
Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice were the only potential doubts after coming off against Madrid with knocks, but Arteta added: “Dec and Bukayo are both fit. It was just a matter of two kicks and they recovered well, so they are available for tomorrow.”
Riccardo Calafiori, who suffered a knee injury in the most recent international break, is the next closest to returning from injury. Asked about the Italy defender’s fitness, Arteta said: “Ricky is progressing really well. To give you a timeline is difficult because he needs to step up especially with having more people around and how the knee reacts after that but he’s in a good place.”
Arsenal face Brentford on Saturday, April 12, and will look to ensure third placed Nottingham Forest cannot close the five-point gap between them in second place.
