Alexander Isak is expected to be fit to start for Newcastle United against Manchester United on Sunday, but Anthony Gordon faces a late fitness test.
Isak has been managing a groin issue which he picked up during the 2-1 victory over Brentford earlier this month and has been substituted in each of the last five matches.

Jason Tindall, the assistant head coach, stepped in for the pre-Manchester United press conference, with Eddie Howe struggling with illness this week. However, Tindall expects the head coach to be well enough to take his place on the touchline at St James’ Park on Sunday.
“He’s trained the last couple days,” Tindall said of Isak. ”He’s trained, and he feels fine. It’s something that we’ll assess day by day, but we’re expecting him to hopefully be available for the weekend.”
With Callum Wilson and Will Osula struggling to make an impact, Newcastle need Isak, who has scored 20 Premier League goals this season, to play three times in six days against Manchester United, Crystal Palace on Wednesday and Aston Villa on Saturday week.
But Tindall would not be drawn on whether Isak was physically capable of starting all of those matches, as fifth-placed Newcastle continue their quest to secure Champions League qualification.
“Beyond that, we’re not really looking ahead of Man United,“ Tindall added about Isak. ”Our main focus is the Man United game and making sure we deliver our best performance. What happens after that is the time when we’ll reflect and assess each individual player. We’ll make a call after that game going into the Crystal Palace game.”
Gordon, meanwhile, suffered a bruised hip on international duty last month and has been left out of the past two matchday squads, but will be assessed about potentially taking a place on the bench this weekend.
“He’s had a decent week with the physios,” Tindall said of Gordon. “He was back on the grass for a pitch session yesterday. We’ll assess him again today to see how he’s responded to that session, then we’ll have to make a late call over the weekend to see how he is for Sunday.”
Howe has missed the past two days’ training due to illness, which Tindall insists no other players or staff members have picked up.

But Tindall is confident that Howe will be in the dugout for the Manchester United game.
“He’s been really poorly the last couple of days, bed-ridden,” Tindall said of Howe. “We’ve been speaking three or four times a day. It’s not affected any of the preparations up until now. We’ve still got a couple of days. I’m sure he’ll be fine for the weekend.
“I’m not expecting him not to be available for Sunday. If it was a game that tomorrow, potentially that might have been different, but the game is on Sunday and the extra day will help him and I’m sure he’ll be able to help the team.”
