Byl to zprvu zápas, v němž byly blíž gólu Finky. Ve čtvrté minutě pelášila sama na branku Tulusová, ale její sólo Klára Peslarová zlikvidovala. Za chvíli stejná hráčka trefila tyčku a později měly Finky ještě přesilovku. První branky se ale ve 12. minutě nakonec dočkaly Češky. Tereza Vanišová se opřela v početní výhodě do přihrávky Daniely Pejšové a puk proletěl skrz betony finské brankářky až do sítě.
Ve druhé třetině však nastal obrat. Ve 23. minutě přišlo nejprve varování, když Vanhanenová jela sama na branku, ale Peslarová opět skvěle zasáhla. Následoval úsek, kdy Češky pár minut soupeřky točily a zdálo se, že brzy přijde druhý gól. Jenže místo toho v 27. minutě zmrazila domácí přesným švihem od modré Suorantová, aby za další tři minuty využily Finky brejk a dostaly se do vedení.
Češky byly rázem zaskočené. Nedařila se jim souhra, zbytečně ztrácely puky, jejich střely soupeřky úspěšně blokovaly. Byla patrná herní krize. „Musíme hrát víc spolu, víc střílet, chodit do brány a najít sílu to zvrátit,“ přála si o přestávce v televizním rozhovoru Michaela Pejzlová.
Leč marně. Češky sice zlepšily aktivitu, ale Finky úspěšně bránily a ve 47. minutě po ojedinělé akci a šťastném odrazu odskočily do vedení 3:1. Za další čtyři minuty přidaly čtvrtý gól a bylo zřejmé, že zápas už se jen z povinnosti dohraje. Byť Kaltounková dvě minuty před koncem snížila v přesilovce na konečných 2:4.
Pozitivem je znovu divácký zájem, na zápas bylo vyprodáno, celkem už šampionát ve čtyřech dnech navštívilo přes 45 tisíc diváků a Česko tak útočí na rekord z roku 2007, kdy mistrovství v Kanadě přivítalo 119 tisíc diváků.

Zatímco na MS v hokeji mužů 2025 budou Češi obhajovat první místo, na již 24. ročníku mistrovství světa v hokeji žen český výběr útočí na návrat na medailové pozice. Šampionát hokejistek se koná v termínu od 9. do 20. dubna 2025 v Českých Budějovicích.
