The three theories of the New York helicopter crash: drones, birds or engine failure

The helicopter accident in New York in which Agustin Escobar, Merce Camprubi and their three children lost their lives has not yet been clarified. The mayor of Jersey City, Steven M. Fulop, has explained the different theories of the authorities on the causes of an event that has put the focus on the safety of this transport. “There was the debate about whether it was caused by a mishap with birds, with drones or by some mechanical failure, we will see what happens,” he said.

The mayor has appeared at a press conference to try to shed light on an investigation that is still ongoing. In fact, Fulop explained that a team of 17 people are still at the scene of the accident, around the Hudson River, to try to find more data to help determine exactly what happened. Fire department divers pulled the victims, the five Spaniards and the pilot, and also the helicopter, from the water.

Firefighters’ divers recovered the bodies

Greg Kierce, director of the Jersey City Office of Emergency Management, explained that access to the area by divers was complicated because the bottom where the ship sank is very rocky. “Working in the Hudson River is always difficult because of its poor visibility conditions,” he said at the same press conference. The investigation is ongoing and authorities have insisted they do not want to speculate on the causes of the accident. In fact, they have not specified whether the initial theories are still valid.

Business trip and a birthday

Agustin Escobar, the father of the family, was in the country on business. After visiting Siemens’ offices in Pittsburgh, he decided to take the trip with his wife, Merce Camprubi, and their three children. In fact, it was one of their birthdays. The pilot of the helicopter, Seankese Johnson, a 36-year-old military veteran, also lost his life in the accident.

Donald Trump

Donald Trump also expressed his condolences: “The images of the accident are horrible. God bless the families and friends of the victims.”
