Arch Manning could be in for a career of being a villain, with one analyst thinking that the ‘hype train’ surrounding him is going to have an adverse effect.
Manning was an incredibly sought-after high school footballer two years ago and he opted to head to Austin for his college football experience. With Quinn Ewers then declaring for the NFL Draft, it gave Manning the chance to be the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns in 2025.
Now, ESPN host Rece Davis thinks he knows how Manning’s college football career is going to pan out.
“It’s unfortunate. Because of the attention he’s going to get, he’s going to become a fan favorite by those outside of Texas. And (for) others outside of Texas, he’s going to become the ultimate villain, and I don’t just mean Oklahoma people,” Davis explained during a recent edition of the “College GameDay Podcast.”
He then made a comparison between Manning and TV shows or movies that garner huge attention and quickly get a wide-reaching fanbase, and inevitably leads to a loud voice trying to discredit it altogether.
“That’s what’s going to happen with Arch,” Davis predicted.
Could Manning have left Austin?
Manning, a former five-star recruit and third-generation quarterback from football royalty, could’ve easily taken his talents elsewhere.
Instead, he remained steadfast, honoring his childhood dream of donning the burnt orange.
Now, just months away from the season opener against Ohio State, the 19-year-old is embracing his transition from backup to centerpiece.
“It was tough. It’s tough in this age. I hope it pays off,” Manning said in a recent interview with InsideTexas.
“There’s nowhere else I want to be. I want to be at Texas. I have friends here. I love this place. I wanted to be the quarterback here. Sometimes it’s worth the wait.”
