Jon Scheyer has made progress in each season as the head coach of Duke basketball, going from one NCAA Tournament win in his first season, to the Elite Eight in his second, to the Final Four in his third. It took Coach K six seasons to reach the national title game, but if Scheyer continues his progression, that will be the expectation for the 2025-26 Duke Blue Devils basketball team. Of course, he has a seismic gap to fill on the Duke roster with Cooper Flagg heading to the NBA, not to mention fellow freshmen Kon Knueppel and Khaman Maluach also likely turning pro as well.
Each of Scheyer’s incoming classes have ranked among the top two in the nation, and his Class of 2025 doesn’t depart from that. Boozer, son of Duke legend Carlos Boozer, is just one of a star-studded incoming freshman class for the Blue Devils. His twin brother, Cayden Boozer, is making it a family affair in Durham, and Cayden is the fourth-ranked point guard in his class. Outside of the Boozers, Duke also has seen forwards, Shelton Henderson and Nikolas Khamenia, sign letters of intent with the Blue Devils. The former is a five-star out of Texas, while the latter is a four-star prospect from California.
Unlike many other programs, Duke was not overly reliant on the college basketball transfer portal last season. It did add starter Sion James, as well as reserves Mason Gillis and Maliq Brown, but as of April 11, no players have either joined or departed Duke from the portal for the 2025-26 season. That doesn’t mean the team isn’t keeping an eye on it as it has contacted the top point guard remaining in the portal in Princeton’s Xaivian Lee. With James and Gillis both out of eligibility, Lee could assume some of their minutes and provide Duke the natural point guard it lacked last season.
