Zápas přitom mohl mít zajímavý příběh i z pohledu Tomáše Koubka. Hradecký odchovanec, který aktuálně chytá za Liberec, měl poprvé nastoupit pod novými lízátky v Malšovické aréně. Trenéři ho dokonce zapsali do základní sestavy jako jedničku, jenže zranění kolene při rozcvičce ho ze hry nakonec vyřadilo.
Samotný vstup do utkání se Východočechům vůbec nepovedl. Už ve 4. minutě Slovan udeřil – po přesné průnikovce Lukáše Masopusta utekl Ahmad Ghali a předložil míč volnému Krollisovi, který ho pohodlně uklidil do odkryté brány.
Podobná akce se opakovala i ve 28. minutě. Znovu zafungovala spolupráce Ghaliho s Krollisem, tentokrát ale dorážku střelce první branky vykopl z brankové čáry Tomáš Petrášek. Chyby v defenzivě však domácí dál provázely – Masopust měl další šanci po střele zpoza vápna, kterou výborným zákrokem zlikvidoval brankář Adam Zadražil.
Svěřenci trenéra Davida Horejše se do šancí dostávali jen sporadicky. Nejblíž ke gólu byl ve 40. minutě Tom Slončík, jeho rána z dobré pozice ale letěla nad. Na opačné straně zaujala akce Josefa Koželuha, který přešel přes Spáčila i Petráška a našel Denisa Višinského. Libereckého křídelníka ale znovu vychytal Zadražil.
Krátce po změně stran mohl Hradec srovnat. Po přesném pasu Daniela Horáka se hlavou dostal do zakončení Adam Vlkanova, jenže branku těsně minul. Hradečtí fotbalisté nadále diktovali tempo hry a hosty zatlačili hluboko na jejich polovinu. V 64. minutě si našel míč ve vápně znovu Slončík, avšak opět pálil nad.
Se sílícím tlakem domácích se na hřišti stupňovaly i emoce. Po jednom zákroku zůstal na trávníku ležet Višinský, což rozčílilo domácího Petráška natolik, že ho museli uklidňovat spoluhráči i hráči Slovanu.
Hradec se tlačil do zakončení hlavně po centrech, které létaly do vápna ze všech stran. Horejšův tým ale opakovaně narážel na pozorného gólmana Krajčírika, který si s centry poradil a držel čisté konto.
Slovan pečetil vítězství v nastavení, když využil protiútok a přihrávku od Qendrima Zyby útočník Letenay.
Boj o první šestku má nyní Liberec ve svých rukou. K jistotě mu stačí v posledním kole uhrát alespoň bod proti Karviné. Hradec musí doufat v liberecké zaváhání a zároveň vyhrát v Teplicích.
