Ein kleiner Passus mit großer Wirkung!
Ilkay Gündogan (34) ist im Sommer vom FC Barcelona zu Manchester City zurückgekehrt. Jetzt hat sich sein Vertrag bei den Skyblues dank einer festgeschriebenen Klausel um ein Jahr bis 2026 verlängert.
[–>Manchester City rückte am Samstagnachmittag mit einem 5:2-Sieg gegen Crystal Palace auf den fünften Tabellenplatz der Premier League vor. Ein wichtiger Sieg für die Skyblues im Kampf um die Champions-League-Plätze – aber auch für Ilkay Gündogan. Der ehemalige DFB-Kapitän hat zurück zu seiner Form gefunden und stand nun das vierte Mal in Folge in der Startelf.
Nach dem Spiel bestätigte Trainer Pep Guradiola die automatische Vertragsverlängerung von seinem Mittelfeldspieler: „Er hat definitiv noch ein Jahr Vertrag.“
Weiter zeigte sich der City-Coach begeistert von Gündogan und bezeichnet ihn als „wichtigen Spieler“: „Der Gündo von Leicester (2:0), der Gündo von Bournemouth (2:1), der Gündo von heute (gegen Crystal Palace) – das ist der Gündo, an den ich mich erinnere, als wir das Triple und das Quadruple gewonnen haben.“
Abgang trotzdem möglich?
Wie es für den ehemaligen deutschen Nationalspieler genau weitergeht, werden allerdings erst die nächsten Wochen oder sogar Monate zeigen. Gündogan hat mit Manchester schon alles gewonnen. Seine Entscheidung über einen Verbleib könnte auch damit zu tun haben, ob sich die Mannschaft am Ende der Saison für die Champions-League qualifiziert.
Im Hinblick auf den Abgang von Kevin de Bruyne (33) wäre City gut beraten, wenn Gündogan mindestens ein weiteres Jahr als Führungsspieler erhalten bleibt.

Zuletzt gab es Gerüchte über einen möglichen Wechsel in die türkische Süper Lig. Allerdings war man da noch von einem ablösefreien Transfer des Mittelfeld-Routiniers ausgegangen.
