Matt Eberflus’ arrival as defensive coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys did not initially generate much protest, but his former players now paint a bleak picture of his previous stint, so that the Texas team knows what they are getting into.
Eberflus was fired by the Chicago Bears last Thanksgiving Day, after poor time management prevented them from upsetting the Detroit Lions.

But two weeks earlier, he had apparently sent the Bears’ locker room into a downward spiral, leaving Eberflus’ authority in limbo.
The Bears were on the verge of finishing 5-2 at the end of October. They led the Washington Commanders 15-12 until they allowed a desperate touchdown by Jayden Daniels on the last play
A month later, they were down by just three points to the Detroit Lions, but did not call a timeout on their final offensive series until they only had time to run one last play, which failed.
In a new interview with Esquire magazine, Bears quarterbackCaleb Williams admits that Eberflus‘ game management and handling of the loss to Washington negatively affected the team.
“The way (Eberflus) handled the situation at that time, in that game, was, I think, one of the things that upset people in the locker room the most,” Williams said.
After the Hail Mary, the Bears lost their next nine games and finished the season with a 5-12 record.
Eberflus will not be the one calling timeouts for the Cowboys offense, but he might be positioning the defense to defend a final Hail Mary pass.
