A situação do time que irá ficar com a vaga do León, excluído do Mundial de Clubes, ainda vê uma série de especulações sobre quem passaria a ter tal lugar na competição. E uma explicação oficial da Fifa veio através de seu presidente
Gianni Infantino disse em declaração à imprensa na cidade de Atlanta (EUA) que a possibilidade que a máxima entidade do futebol estuda para decidir tal caso é a realização de uma partida envolvendo o América-MEX e o Los Angeles FC, no qual o vencedor teria o direito de jogar no grupo em que está o Flamengo
“O que estamos considerando é que, se o CAS (Corte Arbitral do Esporte) confirmar a decisão do Comitê de Apelações, a intenção da Fifa é realizar uma partida, um play-off entre o time que perdeu a final da Liga dos Campeões da Concacaf, que é o Los Angeles, e o próximo time do Ranking, que é o América“, disse Infantino.
Entenda o caso
O León foi excluído do Mundial de Clubes por uma decisão da Fifa por conta de uma violação das regras de disputa das competições da entidade. A equipe tem o mesmo proprietário do Pachuca, que também jogará o certame e a presença de dois times do mesmo dono é vedada no certame.
A decisão foi protestada pelos mexicanos, que entraram com processo no CAS para retomar seu lugar no torneio. A definição sobre o recurso (segundo o Lance!) está prevista para ser anunciada no próximo dia 23, e a Fifa prometeu ‘acatar’ o que for solicitado pela corte desportiva, independentemente se o León for retirado de vez do certame ou não.

Originalmente, o que se chegou a especular é que o América-MEX, que é o melhor time no ranking da Concacaf e que não se classificou para o Mundial. Já havia a indicação que a vaga ficaria com um time da entidade que rege os torneios das Américas do Norte, Central e Caribe, esta sendo confirmada pelo presidente da Fifa.
