Zatímco loni Kratochvíl triumf v anketě nečekal, nyní před vyhlášením tušil, že uspěje. „Upřímně jsem si nebyl úplně jistý, jestli vážně vyhraju, ale nějaký hlásek mi říkal, že po třech medailích z Paříže by se to mohlo podařit. A jsem moc rád, že to tak bylo, strašně jsem si to na pódiu při vyhlášení užil,“ uvedl plavec v tiskové zprávě.
Hvězda českého parasportu má za sebou vydařený rok. Kromě tří paralympijských medailí – zlata na 400 metrů volný způsob, stříbra na stovce znak a bronzu z polohového závodu na 200 metrů – má také pět cenných kovů z mistrovství Evropy včetně zlata na 100 metrů znak. Zaplaval i dva světové rekordy (50 a 200 m znak).
„Nebyl to vůbec špatný rok. Vždycky, když mi ho takhle někdo připomene, vrátí se mi všechny vzpomínky a emoce,“ doplnil Kratochvíl. V hlasování poroty složené z představitelů paralympijského výboru, sportovních organizací, trenérů, novinářů a dalších odborníků dostal 154 bodů, o 35 méně měla druhá lukostřelkyně Šárka Pultar Musilová. Třetí skončil stolní tenista Jiří Suchánek.
Kolektivem roku se díky bronzu z MS stala parahokejová reprezentace, která těsně porazila stříbrný lukostřelecký pár z Paříže Pultar Musilová, David Drahonínský. Cenu za mimořádný výkon převzal běžec na lyžích Miroslav Motejzík, který absolvoval 220 kilometrů dlouhou trať legendárního Nordenskiöldsloppetu coby první amputovaný závodník a dostal se tak do Guinnessovy knihy rekordů.
