Families in Sacramento County who meet certain requirements will be able to reapply for the $725 monthly grant offered by the Sacramento Family First (FFESP) program, a state initiative that seeks to support legal guardians of children ages 0 to 5 and reduce economic inequality in vulnerable communities.
The California Department of Social Services announced the official dates following an initial pilot phase of the program. Applications opened on April 14 and will remain open until April 27 at 11:59 p.m., exclusively through the ffesp.org portal. Two hundred beneficiaries will be randomly selected between April and May, and payments will begin to be distributed in mid-June.

FFESP is part of state efforts to maintain economic support for low-income families, a practice that was reinforced during the COVID-19 pandemic through stimulus checks. Although many similar initiatives have disappeared, this program has continued to operate as part of a comprehensive strategy for child welfare.
The organizers warned that the FFESP team will contact selected applicants from the week of May 5, via email, call or text message. If there is no response within the established deadline, the place could be assigned to another family. If no notification is received before June 6, the application will be considered unsuccessful.
Eligibility criteria for the FFESP program
To qualify for the FFESP program, families must live in one of the following ZIP codes: 95815, 95821, 95823, 95825, 95828 and 95838, and meet these requirements:
Child’s age and ethnicity
The program focuses on families with children aged 0-5 who identify as:
- Black/African American
- Native Americans
- Alaska Natives
Children must live with the applicant at least 50% of the time, ensuring that funds directly support households where the child’s welfare is a priority.
Household income
Household annual income must be below 200% of the federal poverty threshold (FPL). Here’s an example:
- 2-person household: Less than $40,880
- 3-person household: Less than $51,640
- Household of 4 people: Less than $62,400
- Add $10,760 for each additional person.
This criterion ensures that the program is accessible to families with significant economic difficulties and who are most in need of financial support.
