Die Spieler haben dann in den Bullaugen ihre Köpfe ergänzt. Die Botschaft dahinter: Wir sitzen im selben Boot, tauchen im extrem engen Kampf um die Play-In- und Play-off-Plätze in der Easycredit Basketball-Bundesliga mit der „MS Towers“ ab. Und nach dem letzten Spieltag tauchen wir wieder auf – und gucken, wo wir stehen.
Das klappte zuletzt gut: Mit vier Siegen in Serie sind die Türme vor dem Nord-Süd-Klassiker gegen den FC Bayern Basketball (So., 15 Uhr, Dyn) aktuell das heißeste Team der Liga!
[–>„Wir haben uns echt ganz gut gefunden und spielen guten Basketball“, sagt Niklas Wimberg (29). „Jetzt geht es darum, konstant seine besten Leistungen abzurufen, um sich in den nächsten vier, fünf Spielen so zu platzieren, dass man Richtung Play-offs angreifen kann.“
Für ihr Spiel des Jahres ziehen die Hamburger von der Elbinsel Wilhelmsburg mit 20 Tonnen Material zum zweiten Mal in größte Halle der Stadt, die Barclays Arena. Bei ihrem Jubiläums-Spiel zum 10. Geburtstag vor einem Jahr kamen 12.000 Fans (ausverkauft) – Rekord für ein Basketball-Spiel in Hamburg.
Dieses Mal könnte die Bestmarke erneut fallen, den am Spielfeldrand sind sogar noch ein paar mehr Stühle aufgestellt. Im Vorverkauf gingen trotz des Feiertags-Wochenendes gut 11.000 Tickets weg.

Die größte Kulisse der Saison (14.713) verzeichneten im Januar die MLP Academics, die für ihr Heimspiel gegen München in die SAP-Arena nach Mannheim zogen.
Vor einem Jahr verloren die Towers nach Verlängerung mit 80:81 gegen Bayern. Wimberg war da noch für den Double-Sieger im Einsatz und erinnert sich: „Es war ein interessantes Spiel, super spannend. Es hat Spaß gemacht, war cool. Und für ein Bundesliga-Spiel echt eine Hammer-Atmosphäre.“
Wimberg holte in zwei Jahren mit den Bayern zwar drei Titel und spielte in der Euroleague – bekam im Star-Ensemble aber wenig Spielzeit. Darum wechselte er im Sommer in den Norden, um eine Führungsrolle zu übernehmen. „Ich hatte eine erfolgreiche Zeit in München“, blickt er positiv zurück. „Natürlich wünscht man sich in manchen Situationen, dass man mehr spielt. Aber grundsätzlich wusste ich, auf was ich mich eingelassen habe, als ich unterschrieben habe.“

Bei den Towers brach sich Wimberg in der Vorbereitung das Bein. Doch seit er körperlich wieder bei 100 Prozent ist, purzeln seine persönlichen Bestleistungen mit 19 Zählern (gegen Vechta) und 13 Rebounds (gegen Bonn).
In ihrem Wohnzimmer, dem Inselpark (3400 Plätze), haben die Towers 2025 (wettbewerbsübergreifend) alle acht Heimspiele gewonnen. Auch gegen die Bayern rechnet sich Wimberg Chancen aus. Vor allem, weil die am Freitag noch im entscheidenden Spiel um die Teilnahme an den Play-offs am in der Königsklasse bei Real Madrid ran müssen (20.45 Uhr, Magenta Sport).

Wimberg: „Bayern hat diese Saison in der BBL schon gezeigt, dass man sie schlagen kann. Grundsätzlich ist es ein Team, was in dieser Phase mit den vielen Spielen eher langsamer spielt und wir jetzt vielleicht den Vorteil haben, dass wir ausgeruhter sind. Ich denke, da sollte einer unserer Vorteile die Energie sein.“
