Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders is no stranger to controversy, but even by his standards, a recent podcast appearance has ignited fresh debate both for his outspoken faith and for a personal claim that left many fans stunned.
Sanders appeared on a podcast where he reiterated his unwavering devotion to Christianity and his refusal to compromise on his beliefs.

“My relationship [with God] is tremendous,” Sanders told We Got Time Today. “It’s not going to cease. It’s not going to stop. I’m not going to be ashamed of the gospel. That’s what my Bible tells me, and I’m going to proclaim my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ wherever I want to. Ain’t nobody going to tell me not to.”
But it was his next statement that drew the most attention. When asked about personal habits, Sanders revealed a surprising part of his lifestyle.
“No, I don’t do that,” he said. “I don’t pleasure myself. I’ve never in my life pleasured myself. Never in my life. God, God is my witness. In Jesus’ name. I’m telling you. God’s honest truth.
“My next statement going to sound arrogant. I never had to.”
Maintaining strong personal discipline
The comment sent social media into a frenzy, with reactions ranging from disbelief to admiration. Some praised Sanders for maintaining such strong personal discipline, especially in an era where few public figures discuss such topics openly. Others were more skeptical, questioning the plausibility or relevance of the claim.
Regardless of public reaction, the former NFL and MLB star turned college football coach has never shied away from letting his faith guide his words or actions. Throughout his time leading the Colorado program Sanders has consistently emphasized spirituality, discipline, and leadership grounded in purpose.
His coaching style has attracted national attention and reshaped expectations in Boulder, but his willingness to dive into deeply personalterritory continues to set him apart from peers in both sports and culture.
