VfL Wolfsburg
Anfang März sah es so aus, als würde der VfL Wolfsburg sein Saisonziel erreichen. In den internationalen Wettbewerb wollte der Klub – und hatte zu dem Zeitpunkt als Siebter Anschluss an die angestrebten Plätze. Doch schon damals wurde intern über Trainer Ralph Hasenhüttl (57) diskutiert.
Nun, nach einer Serie von fünf sieglosen Spielen mit vier Niederlagen, ist immer klarer abzusehen: Der Österreicher mit einem Vertrag bis 2026 muss im Sommer gehen. Wenn der VfL weiter verliert, vielleicht sogar eher.
Was vor sechs Wochen noch für den Coach sprach: Er hatte den VfL in der Vorsaison vor dem Abstieg gerettet und die Mannschaft danach stabilisiert. Doch was die Bosse schon damals störte: Es fehlte der nächste Schritt. Die Spiele sollten dominiert und vor allem gegen Teams aus der unteren Tabellenhälfte souverän gewonnen werden.

Doch das Gegenteil trat ein. Die Partien gegen St. Pauli (1:1), in Augsburg (0:1), gegen Heidenheim (0:1) und bei Union (0:1) waren spielerische Rückschritte. Danach rumorte es in der Mannschaft: Einige Spieler monierten (fehlende) Taktik, Strategie und Flexibilität. Die Folge: ein Bruch im sportlichen Vertrauensverhältnis zu Hasenhüttl.
Kein Wunder, dass die Wolfsburger am vergangenen Freitag gegen Leipzig (2:3) mehr als eine Halbzeit lang komplett verunsichert, ohne Körpersprache und spielerische Linie auftraten. In der Pause brodelte es bereits hinter den Kulissen. Ein sofortiges Aus von Hasenhüttl nach dem Spiel war nicht ausgeschlossen. Mit zwei Toren nach dem 0:3-Rückstand konnte das verhindert werden.
[–>Intern ist es in den Gremien noch nicht beschlossen. Aber nach der Saison kann nur die Trennung anstehen. Boss Peter Christiansen (50) vermeidet öffentliche Trainer-Bekenntnisse („Ich bin zu lange im Geschäft, um jetzt über solche Themen zu sprechen“).
Für Hasenhüttl wäre mit seinem Abschied aus Wolfsburg wohl die letzte Vereins-Etappe seiner Karriere beendet. Schon von seinem Schritt zum VfL musste er im Frühjahr 2024 in etlichen Gesprächen überzeugt werden. Eigentlich wollte er gar nicht mehr auf die Bundesliga-Bank zurückkehren. Allerdings ist Hasenhüttl ein Thema als Nachfolger von Ralf Rangnick (66) als Bundestrainer Österreichs.
In Wolfsburg beschäftigen sie sich nun auch mit Trainer-Alternativen. Der kürzlich in Leipzig freigestellte Marco Rose (48) wird als Ideallösung betrachtet.
Christiansens dänischer Landsmann Thomas Frank (51/Brentford) ist ebenso interessant. Doch beide sind schwer zu bekommen. Daher rücken nun auch Alexander Blessin (51/St. Pauli), Lukas Kwasniok (43/Paderborn), Bo Svensson (45) und Jacob Neestrup (37/Kopenhagen) mehr in den Fokus.

Krpálek, jenž v Mexiku absolvoval teprve druhou soutěž od červnového mistrovství světa, získal na turnaji druhé stříbro pro českou výpravu. Navázal na sobotní životní úspěch Chusniddina Karimova, který byl druhý ve váhové kategorie do 73 kg.Čtyřiatřicetiletý Krpálek z pozice prvního nasazeného zahájil soutěž ve čtvrtfinále reprízou finále z Limy a i tentokrát Rafaela Buzacariniho z Brazílie zdolal až v prodloužení.
