With the NFL Draft set to kick off on April 24, few prospects have generated more excitement than Colorado’s two-way star Travis Hunter.
A projected top-five pick, Hunter enters the league not only with elite skills but also with the rare goal of playing both offense and defense. In a recent interview through his partnership with Snickers, Hunter opened up about the guidance that’s shaped him, particularly from his college head coach, NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.
An unexpected worry! Travis Hunter tells his future self he is frustrated ahead of the NFL Draft
“Just be where your feet are-don’t let anything distract you,” Hunter shared. “You only get to do this one time, so go ahead and give it your all.”
That grounded mindset has carried him through a unique college journey, beginning with one season at Jackson State before he followed Sanders to Colorado.
Across two seasons with the Buffaloes, Hunter played more than 700 snaps on both sides of the ball and earned national acclaim-not just for his stats, but for his relentless energy and versatility.
“It was great being able to play for Coach Prime,” Hunter said. “He taught me a lot about being a professional-how to be on time, how to stay ready for anything, and how to face adversity. It was a valuable experience, and I’m grateful to still have him in my corner.”
Dominated college football
Hunter’s numbers reflect just how dominant he’s been: 153 receptions for 1,979 yards and 21 touchdowns as a receiver, alongside 47 tackles and seven interceptions as a cornerback. But stats don’t capture the full picture.
What sets Hunter apart is his mindset and passion for doing something few others have even attempted at the next level.
In a recent interview with CBS Sports, Hunter doubled down on his vision.
“It’s never playing football again,” he said when asked if he’d be willing to give up one side of the ball. “Because I’ve been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field. I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing it.”
“I just feel very confident in myself,” he added. “And I got a competitive spirit that I can do whatever I put my mind to, and I feel like I can do it.”
