Javier Mascherano was blunt in the face of growing rumors about the possible arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo as a reinforcement for Inter Miami only for the 2025 Club World Cup. The Argentine coach made it clear that he does not consider temporary signings. His priority is to maintain the cohesion of the team and respect the commitment of those who have been there since the beginning of the season.
The idea of seeing Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo together for the first time at club level captured the imagination of fans, especially after FIFA sanctioned a special transfer window exclusively for the tournament. However, Mascherano was blunt: if someone joins the club, it must be for the whole campaign, not just for a one-off tournament.

In a press conference, the Herons’ strategist was clear in stating his position regarding possible additions for the Club World Cup. “If a player comes, he comes for the whole season. It would be disrespectful to those who have been with me from day one,” he said. The statement closed, at least for now, any possibility of seeing the Portuguese player wearing Miami’s pink jersey.
Although he acknowledged that they are open to strengthening specific positions, Mascherano made it clear that they will only do so if it is to really improve the squad in the long term. “If there is a possibility to improve in a position, we are open to see options,” he added, ruling out media signings as a quick fix.

The idea of uniting Messi with Cristiano resurfaced after comments from former footballer Anders Limpar, who suggested to David Beckham – the club’s co-owner – that he should try to sign the Portuguese star for the World Cup.
