Trea Turner recorded four of the Philadelphia Phillies’ 18 hits Saturday in a heart-thumping 11-10 victory over the visiting Miami Marlins.

Five other Phillies hit multiple hits, including Bryson Stott and Johan Rojas, who registered three apiece. Max Kepler, J.T. Realmuto and Alec Bohm each added a single and a double for Philadelphia, which has won three in a row.

Miami dropped its fifth straight but made things interesting with six runs in the ninth inning against Jordan Romano. Dane Myers hit a three-run homer in the final frame, Graham Pauley added an RBI double and Liam Hicks slammed a two-run homer before Jose Alvarado came on to record the final out for his fifth save of the season.

The Phillies put up four runs in the third against Cal Quantrill (1-2), beginning with a leadoff double by Rojas. Two batters later, Turner delivered an RBI single before Quantrill walked Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber to load the bases.

Nick Castellanos’ sacrifice fly made it 2-0, and then Kepler’s double plated Harper and Schwarber to create a 4-0 margin.

Miami got one run back in the top of the fourth, but Philadelphia responded with three more runs in the bottom half, highlighted by Stott’s two-run double.

The Phillies tacked on two more runs in the fifth, capped by Stott’s RBI single that increased the lead to 9-1.

Philadelphia starter Taijuan Walker worked the first four innings, allowing one run and one hit with three walks and two strikeouts.

Matt Strahm (1-0) worked a scoreless fifth to pick up the win.

Four other Phillies relievers took the mound, including Carlos Hernandez, who allowed three runs in the sixth. He gave up an RBI double to Griffin Conine and a two-run single to Hicks as Miami clawed within 9-4.

However, the hosts responded with four straight hits against Patrick Monteverde in the seventh – from Stott, Turner, Harper and Schwarber – as their lead ballooned to 11-4.

Quantrill was charged with seven runs, eight hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings.

Who knows more: NFL front offices or Mel Kiper? Deitsch’s Media Mailbag

Simply, does he (or any draft expert) eventually come to terms with the fact that just maybe they’re wrong on (Shedeur Sanders)? At the end of the day, 32 NFL front offices should know more than Mel or anyone else in the media, correct? — Jarren D.As I wrote in a piece with my colleagues Andrew Marchand and Dan Shanoff, what viewers saw on ESPN was the nexus of Kiper being hyper-invested in his Sanders analysis running into the reality of what was actually happening. Rosenthal: Tigers, Mariners succeeding with patchwork lineups, Cubs thriving at Wrigley

The team that brought us pitching chaos last season is now playing hitting roulette. Call them cunning. Call them creative. Just know the Detroit Tigers are finding the right combinations again. At 18-11, the Tigers own the best record in the American League. They’re 18-8 since getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers in their opening series. And they’re 13-3 at Comerica Park, their home start since 1911, when they played not at the old Tiger Stadium, but that old bandbox, Bennett Park.AdvertisementThose records are all the more impressive considering the Tigers’ injured list includes their primary catcher, four outfielders and seven pitchers of varying importance. Daulton Varsho’s distinct approach is exactly what the Blue Jays need

George Springer found a nook in his locker to rest his phone every day. Propping the device against a water bottle or glove, the Toronto Blue Jays outfielder called Daulton Varsho ahead of each game for their daily catch-up.Varsho has been away from the Blue Jays for a month as he works back from offseason shoulder surgery — advancing from extended spring training games in Dunedin, Fla., to rehab contests with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. The outfielders always found a moment for a FaceTime.AdvertisementThe pair became fast friends when Varsho was traded to the Blue Jays ahead of the 2023 season, dancing in the outfield after wins and lobbing jokes and jabs in their corner of the clubhouse. With Varsho’s activation expected ahead of Toronto’s series opener against the Red Sox on Tuesday, Springer is probably the happiest guy on […]
