Cooper Flagg, the 18-year-old Duke freshman, has officially declared for the 2025 NBA Draft, marking the next significant step in his promising basketball career.

In an emotional Instagram video shared on April 21, Flagg expressed his gratitude for his time at Duke, describing it as “the best year of my life” and acknowledging the support from fans, teammates, and the Duke basketball community.

A stellar freshman season

Flagg’s debut season with the Blue Devils was nothing short of remarkable. Standing at 6-foot-9, he averaged 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game, leading Duke to the Final Four. His all-around performance earned him the prestigious Wooden Award and the ACC Player of the Year honors, making him only the fourth freshman in history to win the Naismith Trophy.

His versatility on both ends of the floor has made him a consensus top pick for the upcoming draft. ESPN’s latest big board ranks him as the No. 1 overall prospect, highlighting his exceptional combination of intensity, instincts, and explosiveness.

Flagg’s decision to enter the draft comes after a season that saw him set a Duke and ACC single-game freshman record with 42 points against Notre Dame. His ability to shoot from beyond the arc, combined with his defensive prowess, has drawn comparisons to some of the game’s greats.

As the NBA Draft approaches, teams like the Washington Wizards, Charlotte Hornets, and Utah Jazz, all with the worst records in the league, have the highest odds of securing the No. 1 pick. Flagg’s entry into the draft has intensified the anticipation for what promises to be an exciting selection process.

With the NBA Draft Lottery scheduled for May 12, the basketball world eagerly awaits to see where Cooper Flagg will continue his journey. His transition from college standout to professional prospect is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the bright future that lies ahead.
