Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah has confirmed he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of this season.
Tah, 29, last signed a contract extension in September 2021, adding two years onto his terms which were due to run until 2023.
Tah’s future has been the subject of discussion as his contract runs down. Bayern Munich have previously held interest in the Germany international but did not move for him last summer due to Leverkusen’s €30million (£25.7m; $34.1m) asking price. Real Madrid are interested in signing a centre-back this summer but turned down a proposal for Tah when he was offered to them some months ago. Barcelona, who have similarly signed Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessie and Ilkay Gundogan on free transfers in recent season, have already made contact with the player’s camp and are aware of the figures involved in any potential deal.

“Definitely,” Tah responded when asked by BILD if he was playing his final games for Leverkusen after Sunday’s 1-1 draw at St Pauli. “To be honest, I don’t have a time window (to decide on the future). I have informed the club of that.”
“Everything has been openly communicated. The club knows about it. Everything has been said from the beginning. There was a time when I made the decision not to renew my contract and to stick with it. That’s the case now.”
Tah joined Leverkusen from Hamburg in 2015 and has made 397 appearances for the club. His honours with Leverkusen came last season, as he featured 44 times in the side that won the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal and lost to Atalanta the final of the Europa League.
The German has missed only one game for Leverkusen this season, playing 29 times in the Bundesliga, 10 times in the Champions League and five times in the Pokal.
Tah has also featured 35 times for Germany since making his debut in 2016 and started four of their five games at the European Championship last summer, missing one through suspension.
