In der Premieren-Saison der reformierten Champions League mit 36 statt 32 Klubs und einem Liga-System statt der Gruppenphase stehen die Halbfinale an, bei der Uefa wird schon über mögliche Veränderungen für die nächste Saison diskutiert.

Grundlage sind Meinungen über den neuen Modus, die sich die Uefa aktuell bei den Vereinen einholt. Am Ende könnte die Klubwettbewerb-Kommission, in der auch ­Leverkusen-Geschäftsführer Fernando Carro (60) sitzt, am 30. Mai in München über Korrekturen entscheiden und dem Uefa-Exekutivkomitee mit BVB-Boss Hans-Joachim Watzke (65) einen entsprechenden Vorschlag machen.

1.) Das Rückspiel-Heimrecht in der K.o.-Phase

Klubs, die nach der Liga-Phase unter den ersten acht Teams der Tabelle gelandet sind und sich so direkt fürs Achtelfinale qualifiziert haben, sollen zusätzlich belohnt werden. Indem sie in den Viertel- und Halbfinalen gegen schlechter platzierte Teams im Rückspiel grundsätzlich zu Hause spielen. Dies gilt bislang nur für das Achtelfinale.

Kritik am aktuellen Modus, bei dem das Los ab dem Viertelfinale bestimmt über das Stadion im Hin- und Rückspiel, kommt vom FC Arsenal. Die Engländer mussten im Viertelfinal-Rückspiel bei Real Madrid antreten – obwohl sie nach der Liga-Phase auf Rang drei, acht Plätze vor dem Titelverteidiger, lagen, der in die Play-offs musste. Trotzdem setzte sich Arsenal klar mit 3:0 und 2:1 durch.

Im Halbfinale wartet Paris Saint-Germain (29. April/7. Mai) – und auch die Franzosen haben den vermeintlichen Vorteil des Rückspiels im eigenen Stadion. Obwohl sie nach der Liga-Phase sogar nur auf Rang 15 gelandet waren.

Im zweiten Halbfinale stehen sich Barcelona und Inter gegenüber (30. April/6. Mai). Auch Barça hatte als Zweiter der Liga-Phase vor Inter (4.) gelegen und muss trotzdem im Rückspiel in Mailand ran.

2.) Die sogenannte „Country Protection“ (Länderschutz)

Bereits nach der Liga-Phase können Vereine aus demselben Land aufeinandertreffen. Das war in den Play-offs bei PSG gegen Brest und im Achtelfinale bei Bayern gegen Leverkusen und Real gegen Atlético der Fall. So frühe Duelle sind weder für die Fans noch die TV-Sender attraktiv. Im alten Modus konnten Vereine aus demselben Land erst ab dem Viertelfinale aufeinandertreffen. So könnte es wieder kommen.

3.) Elfmeterschießen statt Verlängerung

Die 30-minütige Verlängerung in den K.o.-Runden könnte bei Remis abgeschafft werden und der Sieger direkt im Elfmeterschießen ermittelt werden. So soll die Belastung für die Spieler etwas reduziert werden.
