Just days before the 2025 NFL Draft, Shedeur Sanders finds himself in a swirl of uncertainty.
The Colorado quarterback, long projected as a potential top-10 pick, has seen questions emerge around his readiness for the pro game-particularly when it comes to arm strength and deep-ball timing.

On FS1’s The Facility, former NFL linebacker Emmanuel Acho raised eyebrows with a candid assessment of Sanders‘ passing ability. “Shedeur Sanders, his arm, I got questions,” Acho said. “Travis Hunter would have people beat, and he’s waiting for it. (Jimmy) Horn would have people beat, and he’s waiting for it.”
The remarks came during a discussion with former quarterback Chase Daniel, who still ranked Sanders as the second quarterback off the board.
But the underlying concern-whether Sanders has the arm velocity to capitalize on NFL-level speed-has crept into the larger draft conversation.
A stellar season overshadowed by combine concerns
Sanders‘ production at Colorado tells a different story. In 2024, he threw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns, adding four more scores on the ground while leading the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record. His performance earned him the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year title.
Those accolades didn’t come from nowhere. Sanders‘ poise, decision-making, and accuracy in tight windows impressed scouts throughout the season. Yet his decision to skip physical drills at the NFL Scouting Combine sparked concerns that remain unresolved.
Colorado celebrates Sanders as draft spotlight intensifies
In a moment that highlighted his impact on the program, Colorado retired Sanders‘ No. 2 jersey during their spring game at Folsom Field-a rare honor for a player with just two years at the school. Sanders originally began his collegiate journey at Jackson State under the guidance of his father, Deion Sanders, before transferring to Colorado in 2023.
Across 24 games for the Buffs, he completed 651 of 907 passes for 7,364 yards, 64 touchdowns, and just 13 interceptions. He also added eight rushing scores, showcasing his versatility.
Still, as draft night looms, Sanders‘ standing is anything but certain. Teams like the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and New Orleans Saints are all reportedly considering quarterbacks early in the first round.
Whether one of them pulls the trigger on Sanders could come down to how much stock they place in what they’ve seen on tape versus what wasn’t seen at the Combine.
While his college legacy is secure, Shedeur Sanders’ NFL future remains one of the most intriguing-and debated-storylines of the 2025 draft.
