With the NFL Draft days away, Jerry Jones has done what Jerry Jones does best: stir the pot. Speaking at the Cowboys’ pre-draftmedia conference, the ever-animated team owner hinted at two “pretty substantive” trades that could go down before or after draft night.
This time, the rumor mill isn’t just spinning-it’s locked onto a name: George Pickens.

The Steelers wide receiver, drafted 52nd overall in 2022, hasn’t seen any contract movement ahead of the final year in his rookie deal. Meanwhile, Pittsburgh just handed DK Metcalf a four-year, $132 million contract (per Spotrac), raising eyebrows across the league about where Pickens fits into their future.
Pickens’ contract silence meets Dallas’ trade noise-coincidence or something more?
Pickens had a solid 2024 season-58 receptions, 900 yards, three touchdowns-and looked electric in the playoffs, posting 87 yards and a score against the Ravens. For Dallas, pairing him with CeeDee Lamb could elevate their aerial attack and give Dak Prescott another dangerous target.
Steelers GM Omar Khan addressed the rumors this week, saying bluntly, “No, we’re glad we have George and DK here.” But in this league, a “no” on Tuesday sometimes becomes a trade on Thursday.
Cowboys EVP Stephen Jones had a more measured tone about the draft, suggesting the team might move down instead of up. Yet Jerry’s comments hinted at something bigger-something that could shake the roster before the draft clock even starts ticking.
Could this be a smoke screen? Sure. But if Dallas really is in on Pickens, the league should buckle up-because when the Cowboys make noise in April, it usually echoes into January.
