Sparta v posledním ligovém utkání před nadstavbou zvítězila 2:1 v Pardubicích. V nastavení viděl červenou kartu obránce Martin Suchomel, který tak do důležitého pohárového klání určitě nezasáhne. Svěřenci trenéra Larse Friise jsou v tabulce čtvrtí, na druhou Plzeň ztrácejí tři body.
Do semifinále MOL Cupu přešli přes Zbrojovku Brno (4:0), Duklu Praha (3:0) a Teplice (3:2 po prodloužení).
Plzeň se v letošní sezoně tuzemské ligy nadále pere o předkolo Ligy mistrů. Druhé místo, které jej zajišťuje, drží s náskokem jednoho bodu na třetí Baník Ostrava. O posledním ligovém víkendu Viktoria otočila zápas s Duklou a vyhrála 4:2.
Západočeši cestou do semifinále vyřadili Ústí nad Labem (4:3), Zlín (4:1) a Bohemians (3:1).
Oba celky se naposledy utkaly na konci března, kdy Viktoria soupeře na Letné porazila 4:2. V posledních pěti vzájemných střetnutích uspěla Sparta jen jedinkrát – ve zmiňovaném finále loňského ročníku poháru na hřišti Plzně (2:1).
Finále, do kterého již postoupila Olomouc po úterní výhře 3:2 v Ostravě, se odehraje 14. května. Vzhledem k tabulce koeficientů je jisté, že se bude hrát na Hané. Otázkou zůstává, kdo se o pohár se Sigmou porve.
