The tweet, which read, “Happy Easter to all. Shout out to Jesus for taking one for the team. Ha ha,” was unearthed on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2025, and quickly went viral.
During the April 23 episode of their podcast, New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, Travis’s older brother, Jason, couldn’t resist poking fun at the decade-old post. Jason labeled it as “potentially the greatest tweet ever tweeted on Easter day,” while Travis responded with, “This is so f—— dumb,” acknowledging the tweet’s cringeworthy nature.
Despite the jest, the brothers shared a lighthearted moment, with Jason defending the sentiment by saying, “We don’t give Jesus enough shout-outs for taking one for the team if we’re all honest.” Travis humorously agreed, adding, “He’s the epitome of taking one for the team. He died for our sins.”

Travis later explained that at the time, he was using Twitter as a personal diary, sharing random thoughts without considering the potential for future scrutiny. He admitted, “I was just using Twitter as a diary. I’m just out here, just saying nonsense.”
